Issies and shtuff...
« on: September 14, 2006, 09:25:22 am »
Well, after finally figuring out how to get the installer to download.

The updater doesn't work at all, so I looked around, and found the manual patch I was supposed to downoad, tried unzipping it and it tries to replace files, which is fine, but then it asked me for a password...?

Oh, and I get ahead of myself. I tried running it without updating it or anything, and it froze. I had unplug it from the wall to get it off, not even shutting my computer down would end that program.

the client posted on the download page is outdated as of today...the developers are working on a new one...watch the main page "news" and the other related posts in the forum for new information as it is posted.

If you're asked for a password when you are trying to unzip, try to unzip the files into another directory, or another drive entirely if you have one.

In response to the first post:

What's a 'client'?

Second:

And in the thread regarding the manual patch, it said specifically to unzip the patch files into your PlaneShift folder. Was this misinformation?

No, that is the default place you should unzip to. However for some bizarre reason a few people have been getting password prompts, and in this case they should try unzipping to another location.

Thanks ALOT for all this info, all.

People have been playing for a while now :] The server has returned and you need to run the updater one more time (you might have to delete the file version.dat before it'll allow you to fetch all the new content). Are you experiencing any further problems?

1.Download the PS Client and the patch.

2.Extract them to seperate directories.

3.Install planeshift.

4.Copy the patch into the planeshift directory (where you installed it to)

5.Delete version.dat in the planeshift folder.

6.Run the updater

7.Wait until it is finished and play planeshift!

Adding a bit more content to Croconil's set:

  • First make sure that your previous PlaneShift install is removed completely; Run the uninstaller, and then check to make sure that all files and folders were really deleted.
  • Reboot your computer after uninstalling.
  • Reinstall the 0.3.015 version that you download either from BitTorrent or from the mirrors (bonus points if you already had the install file saved away).
  • Download the separate 0.3.015b patch.zip, and extract the files it has into your main PS directory. If you have a utility like WinRar, WinZip, or IZArc, you can just place the patch.zip into your PS directory, right-click on the .zip, and choose "Extract Here."
  • Click Yes to let the patch overwrite all the old files with newer versions.
  • Try running the updater. If you get problems with version messages, try finding the file version.dat in your main PS folder and deleting it, then run the updater one more time.
  • You can also look here for updating suggestions.
  • Running the updater may be required several times before it fetches all of the new content.

If you need further help on any specific step, post back here.

Alright, MUCH MUCH appreciated all. I'm going to try all this right now, following this advice religiously.  \\o//

Edit: Think I figured it out

The updater downloaded a temp folder and a few zipped folders into my PS folder. What do I do with these?

*edit*

Alright, I got the updater to work properly... and now I ran the client, and it froze again.
