Official PSWIKI
« on: September 20, 2006, 11:30:41 am »
It took time, effort, friends and Talad for the OK, but finally it's ready.

The PSWIKI.

From now you are allowed, no called on to edit the Quickguide, the Players Guide, the FAQ and the ingame help directly in this wiki.
The goal is to improve those documents. To make the quickguide even quicker, Players Guide more thorough and better, the FAQ more complete and up to date, and finally the ingame help to include everything a player might ask while keeping it as simple as possible.

Please keep in mind that those documents are official and will be reused in the way they are being used now. That means:
- They are under the PS license, so don't copy&paste them in other contexts just like that.
- If you plan to do major changes on one doc, please discuss them beforehand, here on the forums - a seperate thread on a specific doc seems most appropriate to me; But please do so! Don't hold back your ideas!
- If you see a typo or some strange grammar, go on and correct it directly in the wiki!
- Keep in mind that those docs should be understandable by 9 to 99 year old people - KISS (keep it simple and stupid)!

There is no deadline on editing those docs, but I like to give you a timeframe. I will give those docs to Talad in about one month, for reviewal and to decide whether it was worth the hassle or not. So don't feel pushed  >o)

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps in this important matter!

The idea is VERY good, congrats on that PS team!

Now, I'd have a couple of suggestions as to the wiki thingy:

It would be a very good practice to register an account and use the wiki under a specific name (user) for security and ease of administration. Believe me, I've seen ugly things happen to wiki's in the past which had little protection.

Have Preview, History and Discussion features integrated, again to improve usability.

Hi,
I agree that we need a wiki that lists the person that edited the page a preview of the page before submiting it and it is nice to have a log in system so you dont just have anyone that comes by edit (you can easily lose a whole page this way).

Illori

[i vote for tikiwiki as it has all thses features]

The wiki engine is not so important really. If this one already installed can be tweaked to have those above-mentioned features, then it's perfect as it is.

To prevent thousands of threads being opened here about the Wiki, isn't if far more easier to take the discussion to the wiki itself? There should also be a list of revisions, so if someone screws up a page, you can restore it. The same thing illori says basically
I recommend MediaWiki, it's the same engine that Wikipedia uses, plus it's free & opensource :)

It also looks waay better than the current wiki ;)
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

I agree there needs to be some kind of security to prevent any Joe Blow from adding to the page.

I agree. I got on and fixed some grammer and spelling and punctuation, and didn't even need to do anything to identify myself.

I added some new things from the original PS guide, so that we have something to chew on when actually modifying things. Also did some formatting. I'll keep working on it when I figure out how to use more of its powers (this is the third wiki engine I'm working with and for the record... it's freaking me out that there's no standard).

Anyway, all of this can be improved... but we need the people in charge to tell us what can be done and what can't. If you'd like to consider changing the wiki engine I'd also go for MediaWiki. It's what stands behind Wikipedia after all.

after the artwork contest, this is one more step in the right direction, a more open one, it feels much more like a opensource game :-)

I completely agree.  These things are the sorts of things I always though PS could be.  I group of hobbiests working on an mmorpg, and a community forming around it that has the ability to help shape the community and world.  I dream of such things always.

Due to too many people poking in the same hole, it has been decided to change the wiki engine. I thank Xordan for his efforts and provide the webspace for that!
Now you people don't have any more excuses not to work on those files :P
