its all accurate this group has little direction or course atm, I do not however think it is innapropriate to ask for ideological contributions from the community . . .
I was asked to join this Alliance after asking at least one of the involved guilds to merge with the vespers. After a great deal of work to make my own charity work with the aid of my guildmates, i decided to extend a hand to the other guilds whose stated purpose was to aid other players. Other than the work the vespers have done i have seen little tangible systematized effort to aid new players. When the money flowed freely we did a great deal of good work and helped alot of players. I owe a great debt of gratitude to every member of the vespers that gave their time and resources to our charity as well as everyone who donated. Self interest is the dominant paradigm for all humanity, this generally hides itself under a mask of altruism.
for myself i make no excuse but this: Xillix is not, nor was she ever altruistic.
all of this is ooc and my charity will continue.
As a player i felt that i could serve the community so you would all know that my octarch thing was not a naked power grab, but an earnest attempt at a decent, well devised roleplay. I got ahead of myself, i had read all the settings at that point but not spoken to all npcs and not taken part in the forums so it was as an outsider that i did what i did. My charity had its roots in my feeling a need to reach out to the community and display something other than mere power mongering. It went very welll at first but the combination of being yelled at for shouting

, and the tria wipe, and the onset of crafting (which gave wealthy players someplace to sink all of their money) has rendered my charity much less effective. My goal in joining Illustro was to help organize a larger scale project similar in nature to my charity in part to relieve my guild of what was at the time of my joining very weighed down by time spent aiding new players.
The reason i meantion all of this is because i agree that right now there is not much going on with Illustro. I would like to see or help create a system by which Illustro might effect the game positively. The is no current influx of noobs as we had during the heyday of the Vespers charity. But each new release sees such an influx and perhaps if the community geared up for that with a plan for how best to retain what is good from the next influx would be useful.
Generally i believe most people are poor at playing good guys or bad guys and are better at playing self interested arses that run about moralizing and policing what they call rp, since this is true, i see little trouble in asking before the fact what the community thinks. I will discuss with my guild the possibility of making our scripts for aiding new players public here, so that there is something to look at and critique constructively.
I am a late comer to this thread and did not even know this was going to be posted, I agree with most of the current critiscism. I hope Illustro will make something of itself, something more than a loose aliance of "people that help people" but i hope that for everyone who believes stating this makes it true.
