ooc
« on: October 09, 2006, 08:06:46 pm »
normally this wouldnt bug me if a gm had gone up and /tell me that i was incorrectly roleplaying

but when im bombarded with those who are screming out ooc on the main tab and get no sort of repurcussion becasue of it, then yeah, imm bugged a little

but see...i didnt feel as if i was incorrectly rping...i was talking about a guild sister who was a drunk, and how i hadnt seen her lately..there was no use of ooc except that i was following the conersation starter who was using these () i didnt understand why it would be put tin those, but if the conversation ahd been read by the gm then it would ahve clearly not have been ooc..

it jsut amazes me...i know the gm was trying to do their job, and sometimes its ahrd to deal with all the players...and its easy to get mixed up and automatically assume that someone's conversation is ooc and then being strict about the player guidelines...

but why isnt this power used when there are ACTUAL ooc conversations...i almost pmed karyuu because it started to piss me off so much, the rudeness and annoyancy (maybe these arnet words but i like em anyways) and the general disregard for the feelings of those around
but i thought better not to send it...

anywho...yeah, jsut ahd to get that offf my chest

Im sick of being slandered ooc when i decide to try a little evil RP its quite ridiculous, either ignore my evil advances or just put in brackets [not interested] rather proceeding to slander me.

I might not be getting the real sense of this, but:

Quote
there was no use of ooc except that i was following the conersation starter who was using these () i didnt understand why it would be put tin those, but if the conversation ahd been read by the gm then it would ahve clearly not have been ooc..

Let's see.
When someone makes an OOC statement, somehow that has to be marked.
One of the most common ways to do that is sorrounding the sentence with "( )" or "[ ]".
There are other variants, such as OOC: and then the sentence... but this doesn't matter much now. This, you already know, Kalika.

The important thing, is that the one that started the conversation, the one that was using the parenthesis, considered the conversation OOC. That's why he/she used the parenthesis.
If the starter of the conversation, had no notion about what OOC is, and what is the meaning that most commonly is assigned to all sentences sorrounded by ( ) within the game, then it's on players responsability to inform said player of those connotations.
Kalika, you're perfectly able to do that, and politely.

So, assuming the conversation starter is fully aware of OOC, and the use of parenthesis to mark it, then I've to state the following.

Even if the talk that is put in OOC form, might pass as an IC talk, it is not your duty to make it so. If the conversation starter considered the conversation OOC, then it is OOC, and should remain in that plain.

Hope you feel better once you threw that out, good to see you're actively playing the game.  :flowers:

ahah yeah i knows that what i was doing could be "considered" ooc...thats not my problem

i wasnt sure where the other person was leading with the conversation so i thought it was best that it be left in () so as not to disturb the more hard-core players, jsut in case something ooc was brought up

(the person i was tlkaing to was reffering to an alt character so thats the only reason i could see it being in brackets)

i dunnos...maybes its jsut an off day for me

i jsut dunnos why i got warned when there were others around (noobs, maybe they go easy on them) yelling ooc...

oh wells..at least i kept it in brackets

'she lies with her arms flung out as if to embrace the whole hyancinth-scented, watermelon-colored world.'

when i tried to rp evil people called me a noob, IC'ly... ooc'ly too, some put me on their ignore list... suggestion: Rp with people who know how to deal with evil rp'ers IC'ly not people who call them noobs and so on, just putting them on their ignore list.

Hmm, evil characters are the hardest characters to play.

You see, people believe that there is a thin line between playing an evil character and being an idiot...mostly this is wrong.

If you are playing an evil character, you are an idiot :P

You see, you can play a crazy character, an ambitious power hungry character, a sadistic character but, you can not play an evil character...there is no such thing.

Evil isn't something you are, it's something your called.  Same with good.

The sooner you realize this, the better you will play the so-called evil characters that are so rare these days.

I dont necessarily regard myself as "evil" i have my good and bad days so i guess my character just has a temper...i dont go round shouting "im evil im evil" thats just nonsense...but some players do need to learn that not every character is going to be nice.

There are in game benefits to playing good or neutral characters. Can anybody name one benfit to playing an evil character? I cannot. All evil characters eventually just stall out. They are great for one-shot deals to impress and entertain, if they are handled in a deferential manner. IMHO and really rhetorical comment, BTW.

This does take us back to the post on evil Karyuu mentioned: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=22276.0

Kalika, if only you had been here a year ago. If something like that pisses you off, you would've left already if you had started playing just a little sooner.

Yup and that is so not the attitude to take or actions to do if you want to have things change for the better. What she is doing is much better then throwing a fit and leaving the community. Her imput gives the community an out look on how we could possibly fix these hurdles so that roleplay will be much smoother.

On another note, all the "peoples who left" seem to come back. So maybe it isn't so bad.

@Kalika: Could it be even slightly possible that the Gm you are speaking of might have thought that you were talking real life but not with brackets even though you were in character talking "yliakum life"?

I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

I knew it!
* ThomPhoenix points at Proglin and makes a pose

But hey Kalika, why did you want to PM Karyuu about it, she's busy enough already being a GM and a Moderator and a Developer.
When you're having problems with a GM, you can always ask another GM on #Planeshift-GMtalk or something, Karyuu is not the only Problem Solver ;)

A simple way to explain this would be that GMs are people. They can't chew on everybody who talks OOC, and they can sometimes jump to a wrong conclusion. I don't see the reason to be pissed off at this thing, you could just tell the guy that your conversation is IC and, I guess he would have left you alone to continue.

well, if ooc convos get too annoying... you could always ask them to take it to group, if it's ooc comments about the rp you're doing like (my toes were on the table ;)) would be acceptable, however [go to www.albinoblacksheep.com/llama.php it's so funny] is quite annoying :P which actuallt has happened.

i guess some werent paying attention

@ progilin--thanks but im not ON TO anyone, i SAID--- that the GM is doing theyre job and that it is sometimes hard to deal with all the players and their stuff, AND that the GM proably mistook what i was saying as being OOC...thanks for reading..what you quoted from me was in response to OTHERS ooc comments that i deal with in game

*btw..im in a very upset modd right now

@peacer--have fun under the big rock, and btw i ahve told these people in /tell (oh no! i forgot that were not supposed to do tell because it is bad bad bad) to please move the conversation somewhere else or just not talk at all...soeone was tlaking about david bowie and greeting no one about 15-20 times in a row, not to mention his other obnixious attitudes

@ThomPhoneix--yes i understand that there are more people helping then KAryuu...but that fact is that i thought better NOT to pm her, seeing as that it was kinda childish to do so, and the whole thing about pming KAryuu instead of all the otehrs is that shes usually the one mentioned when needing to pm someone for help...excuse my lack of knowledge in the helpers of the site

@ Syilph- i did tell him that it was ic in /tell but me and the other person ended the conversation anyways.

@ zorbels--yes i think it is entirely possible that the Gm mistook my conversation for real life which is why i chose to try not to make a big deal out of it

anyways i guess i cant type well enough for anyone to actuall understand what im talking about

edit--im sorry, i really wish my tone wasnt so harsh i sorrys  :'(
