Hiya!

1 ) No
2 ) Yes
3 ) Yes
4 ) The defaults work fine for me
5 ) Yes, but it varies
6 ) No
7 ) No not over all - this is a Stats and Skills based MMORPG with a huge emphasis on Role Playing your character and interacting with other players  characters. PlaneShift is not a game for solo gaming with just you and your character pitting yourselves against the game code's A.I.
8 ) It's been out for years. At present it gets a new version of the PS Client every 2-3 months or so with sometimes new content and many bugfixes
9 ) Anything you kill is /loot -able if you don't take all day about it - Experience, Trias, Progression Points, and Items that you can sell for trias, all count as loot

- running PlaneShift Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) Client, on an Apple iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC processor, 2GB DDR SDRAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card with 128MB VRAM, a 20-inch active-matrix LCD widescreen display, and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive... so what's your excuse, huh?

1) No, those screenshots are mostly out of date.  There are different skins available to use that you can switch between by using your PSSetup.exe and selecting which skin you'd like to use.  To get a better idea of what the game looks like, try browsing the Screenshots thread.

2) There is no mini map of the world and will probably never be one.  Maps will be introduced with the cartography skill, that's still in developement.  There are, however crude drawings of the world and maps and the like thrown around the forums and in the Hydlaa library in game is a old map on the wall.

3) Yes.  Your in game options has all your commands you can use, or close to them.  Keep in mind, that this is a game still in developement, so that documentation may be a little bit behind on the current commands at times.  If you are referring to talking with NPCs, then have a read of this thread:  Getting Started In Game

4) I run defaults with a few minor changes to jump key, camera angle change key, run key, etc.  Every key is fully customiseable to suit your preference.  Its in the in game options.

5) I average 300-500 ms pings.  There is a little lag most of the time, and some times it's more.  I forget exactly where the server is phisically located, but I think it's something like in SouthEast Asia.  There is a little, but most people get used to it.

6) No.  Make sure your video card drivers are most up to date as possible.  The game engine uses OpenGL, not DirectX, so having DirectX updated won't cut it.  If you're having graphics issues, there is a forum area for bugs and problems in game.  Try searching through that area for help.

7)  There are no levels in the sense of WoW type leveling.  There are, however, different types of stats and skills that you can train, to grow stronger, hit harder with a sword, etc.

8 ) The main planeshift.it site has a detailed history about the makings of this game.  The link escapes me at this time, but if you want to be technical, it was first made in MUD form way back in 1994 ish, if I recall correctly.

9)  As stated, anything you can kill can be looted.  Command:  "/loot"  Keep in mind, not every kill will have loot in the way of items, Tria (in game monetary units), weapons, etc.  Some Mobs don't ever drop items as loot.  All mobs, however, will award experience and Progression Points when killed though.

Have fun.  :)

We have a stickied topic on maps in the General Discussion section - this is all the information available on this forum.

Progression Points are used in combination with Tria to train skills and attributes. When you need to raise a skill for example, you waddle over to a trainer, and pay them with PPs (and a certain amount of Tria per PP) and you gain theoretical knowledge. After some NPC training, to complete the level up of a skill you will have to practice it. For attributes though, like Strength or Agility, there is no practice needed. Just PP and Tria :]

I'll just stick with Kay. It sounds funnier... :P

But one thing I've been wondering, that ties in with one of his questions - when did Alpha start? (as in 'Atomic Blue, ver 0.1')

Thanks, Kay  :D

But jaysus do these boys work slow... over 4.5 years and still only half the models are available. I never knew money and manpower was so important... I've never heard of a game being developed that long  :P

There were quite a few more models under the previous Molecular Blue version.  When we went to Crystal, the models had to be completely remade from scratch, including texture skins.  So, it's really more of a, they just haven't been remade yet type of thing.  :)

I'd love to see a faster progress as well, but I still think that what we have accomplished so far is quite amazing for a tiny group of people doing this in their free time I don't think our team has ever reached a number of active members above 20 (we're lucky if we get half that) and we still have real jobs to take care of, or school, or similar engagements. I don't know of a single other project quite like ours.
