list of features, (implemented, under dev, future)
« on: February 18, 2006, 02:21:23 am »
hello guys,

i am quite new to the game, but i am very impressed with your great work.
i ?ve been reading the forums getting myself into the feeling of PS and one thing i have clear is that this an prealpha stage, so more than players we are tester, but, i still cant find a organized list of game features (implemented, under dev, future)
i think that would be a great idea in order to easily help to test it, let me give you an example of how it could help:

one thread was about weapons that didnt work or work different as usual,

so if they report bug #nnn about weapons not working, or working different there are two things that could happen,
1. they really find a bug,
2. they just get inthe middle of some new weapon implementation then diverting their focus from and reporting some already-known bug..

i know that there is a review thread posted here, maybe  only need to be improveded,

There is no running list of implemented features, aside from the CVS history, nor a list of future implementations.  The best place to deal with bugs is at BugTracker.

I\'m not quite sure if this is the right thread, but I\'ll post here anyway.

I\'ve just installed the latest CVS versions of cel, CS and PS, however not cal3d because it failed to compile on my machine. Instead I use 0.11.0_pre20050823 provided by Gentoo.

It went relatively smooth, but when trying updater --auto the first time I got the following output:
Code: [Select]
Trying mirror Laanx..
Server error 404 (http://psteam:p1ane@laanx.fragnetics.com/updater_hidden/version.dat)
Bad version info in file: /this/updatertemp/Laanx.dat
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x082b9f64 ***

After that, when I try to rerun the updater, it always freezes on the registry:
Code: [Select]
NOTIFY: psUpdaterEngine initialized.
Checking registry version...

The updater just keeps standing there, no error message, processor load on 100%.

I followed the CVS instructions for Gentoo systems, also commented out \"docs\" and \"root\" from the module section and later even removed it from the updaterconfig.xml file, both didn\'t work out.

gcc is 3.4.4, glibc is 2.3.5-r2

During the compilation of CS I had a computer crash (just rebooted, no clue why), after that I just recompiled CS and continued.

So I wonder: Is this a bug, a version incompatibility, my personal fault, bad luck, whatever?

Regards
Rolf Blacksmith

P.S.:
Whe I try to run psclient (without update), it complains about missing or not found CS plugins and recommends me to export the path to CS, although I exported it already.

Maybe this helps in some way.

Ya know, there\'s nothing wrong with creating a new thread.  ;)

Well, first of all, I overhauled how the updater checks for updates in the newest version.  You are using PS CVS past the last date it was compatible with the public server, and the updater is no longer compatible with old servers, at that point.  We will be releasing the upgrade as soon as the hardware issues with our server is fixed, and we\'ll be upgrading the update servers as well.  So, you\'ll have to wait a bit.

I\'ve never used the precompiled Cal3D, but it should theoretically be fine if it has the needed includes.  Best bet is to just compile that yourself.  You can goto the IRC room #planeshift-build on FreeNode for more help, and to get sets of dates to build from, in the future.

OK, I\'ll do that next time. Sorry.

Good to know about the updater.

If I may post one more suggestion:
There is a weekly summary thread in here. Could you also some info in it about which CVS dates do work, which are known not to work, just some pieces of information for guys like me. I hope this isn\'t too much of work.
