for english:

hello buho i dont know if you are of Spain or South American. There is all the same the case that you speak Spanish and I am ready to help in measurement of the possible thing. I have a friend who also plays and we thought in beginning a translation. If you want we put all together and already we are a group. We will have to go searching people because to translate a game is not easy. I have thought that we can begin for the manual. Because I am starting playing and i dont know some things XDD. and already once we have manual and description of the game, we can start with the dialogues, quests, interface, etc.

Please provide an English translation when writing posts in another language :)

Well, here's the thing: The 'common language of Yliakum' is English. By an astonishing coincidence Yliakan is exactly the same as English :P
Which means it's OOC to speak any other language. So, basically, having a spanish translation would encourage people to speak OOCly (i.e. speak in Spanish)

But then I got thinking... and I thought, wouldn't it be easier if Spanish was coincidentally the same as an alternate language spoken in Yliakum? Sort of like a non-race specific version of the Enki language, that just happens to be Spanish?

I think it would be more fair to the foreigners, at least until we get a foreign-speaking server up...

HI Buho, im from huelva so is metatrion, i totally understood you, and i don't care if we do with El Mundo or others translators, if we correct these translations. I have a few experience translating subtitles for some series, and I don't trust on online traslators very much. But before start with any of these we should try to find more people, it will be a lot of work for just 3. we'll keep in touch.

emeraldfool, I totally understand your point, but i was thinking on translate manuals and staff. The game will stay the same, and in time, we could "teach" some characters other languages.

Welcome to PlaneShift!

In order to fulfill what you set out to do, here are some links and some advices. Firstly, you might wish to take a look here: http://www.planeshift.it/other_languages.html , with particular attention to this link (also on that page) - http://www.zelphira.com/planeshift/index.php?dest=contribuer&ctrib=2

Other languages are supported and encouraged provided you follow some common sense rules:

- When speaking in the game in Chat tab, speak in English so that everyone can understand and communicate with you (as the common language to us all is English)
- Do not make a guild based on language criterion only
- Do not drive away people which do not speak your native language. Instead, try to communicate with them, even if your knowledge of English is not very good. We'll understand that and, with time, you'll surely get better.

PS I'm not a native English speaker either ;)

Of course im not going to speak spanish ingame but i see its a good idea to convert it in a dialect in gam (enki for example) or something like that that matches with roleplaying , but if you say its not ok to speak spanish in game wll accept it , but i think it will be ok to have an spanish manual interface and things like that but not to traduce quest names objects and thing that will make hard to speak of them with english speakers , u understand me?

for the other spanish guys : i know online traductors are really bad for more than simple constructions but cheking it we can save effort. \\o//
but its true we need more people and to create a blog or something like that to comunicate. O--) (i love those smileys)

Manual and interface in Spanish is more thank ok

You can ask Kerol or anyone in the #planeshift-wiki channel (on IRC -> irc.freenode.net) if you can use the PlaneShift wiki project for a joint effort on creating some internationalization. Linky: http://pswiki.xordan.com

ok we have just create a temporary forum as a location for the project, in time we will change it (location and contents) but right now we prefer to spent time on other works http://server3.foros.net/esplaneshift.html (mods, if this web makes you feel uncomfortable, make me know we will do anything to improve that)
we are very sorry about the ads in the forum, but It's just temporarily located there.
Now we have a base to start, anyone who wants to cooperate with us can contact us in this topic or throw the new forum (in spanish)

Just make sure to include a spiel about not using spanish in-game in the translation. I could see people using the rationale "If everything else is in Spanish, why can't we speak it? Why bother to make us a translation if we have to learn english to participate anyway?"

But we'll see. I still think we should have more languages in Yliakum than just Englsih and the racial ones...

Nothing wrong on translating the interface to other languages, or there wouldn't exist this page, just put a disclaimer:

Quote
Importante: Existe una prioridad del roleplaying en Planeshift, para asegurar un ambiente internacional de fácil entedimiento para todos, y para evitar lo uso excesivo de lenguas OOC, todas las mesajes IC deben ser escritas en inglés y mesajes OOC en español deben ser escritas solamente en los chats GUILD, GROUP y TELL
