Item and Money Wipe
« on: February 03, 2007, 03:05:59 am »
Due to the exponential rise in money and items, caused by players exploiting several different bugs in the game, we have done a partial database wipe.  Hopefully this will get the game back to "normal" for a while--until the next bugs are found by clever, evil players. :-)

Talad described the wipe thusly:  "I've removed money based on time connected, placed stack count to 1 for quest items, capped stats and skills, and removed
high stacks of special weapons. In addition some ad hoc fixes were made."

So mules and short-time very rich players probably had more wiped than long-term players without much money.

We want this game to be good for new players and old, RPers and gamers, so we need the economy to not have billions of circles.  Wiping is a drastic measure and we don't do it without a lot of thought, debate and discussion about the best way to undo the damage caused by our bugs (sorry!) without hurting the innocent.  We do our best to find and fix bugs we find, but this is a huge and complex game and it is very difficult to keep up with innovative players. :-)

Please bear with us as we develop this ALPHA version of PS and make it as great as we can together.

Thanks,
-Vengeance

Thanks....so now we have the guild treasury and the guild armory completely wiped. I've only played this game for 2 years (and from the first day after the last wipe) so it's impossible to us (me) to have more than trias and weapons that a newbie have.. i must be a cheater for sure...  :@#\
You have not considered that there are accounts that RP the money keeper and the weapon keeper for the people around....and this kind of accounts plays only for a little time.

I had something like 2.3 million trias on my account and now i have 175k... that's incredible. Can someone say that i had not the time to earn them? Must i move back to the arena to loot longswords for weeks again to have *my* trias back? And all the guild's  money and weapons got by member donations since the last wipe...donations of all the guild's  members we had and have.... how can one say that are too much?

Complaining about it doesn't help anything.  Please don't make me have to spam the delete post button more than I already to about this issue.

It's unfortunate yes, but this was deemed the best way to go about handling what had happened and was chosen over the other alternatives, one being, a total wipe, as example.

Try and pick up the pieces and move on, so to say.

Any more posts of this type, I will remove.

Tip for next time: Create several "hoard" characters and divide stuff up between them rather than keeping it all on one character.

This seems like a good solution.  Certainly easier to recover from then a total wipe.  Either would have been good, but a targeted wipe seems to be the best solution to the problem.

I'm a little sad about having lost about 800k that was part of a 1m gift a friend gave me to help with my training, but I still have my pair of legitimately gained Silverweave Shortswords (thug loot, and an admittedly suspiciously cheap one which I bought) and my pair of (again legitimately gained-these were a gift from another friend) Silverweave daggers.  As long as I've still got those, and my handmade weapons, I can make back what I lost.  As far as who's to blame, I'm blaming the general community of Rogues for stealing from me in my sleep and killing them, hoping that the looting of one of their corpses will have my bag of 3,200 circles.  Unfortunately, I doubt that will be the case, but they do carry nice swords...

On the subject of mules and money holders, guild banks, etc.:  If you have that kind of money in the guild's bank, and you are running a guild, then you should spend some of it on lavish parties for the members and their friends...  But that's just me.  My thoughts are that a guild doesn't need funds unless it's going to DO something with them;  and if they are DOING something with the funds, then they wouldn't have them sitting around anyways.  Spread the money around among the guild members who are in need of it, perhaps funding the purchase of numerous items to be distributed as general things in your guild, depending on the nature of the guild, these would be different.

I'm not a guild leader...i'm only a high member of my guild  :)
To run a guild (or to be part of it as an high member)  means *also* to spend most of the time searching good weapons for members (a war could happen) and to earn lots of trias for new members needs and wishes. I need nothing for myself. I still have my weapons and my skills to move around in Yliakum.
But it's sad to see my hard work thrown away because of people that have never spent more than one day to have what he have....sorry about it.

Fantastic! I'll weather a partial or full-wipe anytime. No problemo.

Hmm... I would have to say that overall, this partial wipe has some very distinct advantages.  Yes, my character was dropped to only 175K tria, but I also have to look at the point that so was everyone else!  This means that (due to the laws of supply and demand) prices for special or rare things will once again drop from the obscene to the merely expensive.  As for guild funds being heavily depleted, the guilds have survived this before.  All it means is that the guilds can't drive up the prices for bidding on things for a few days until they build up their wealth again.

Well the stupidity of some players in the recent past made this wipe a necessity and I'm not complaining about it at all. In fact it didn't even touch me. However I do wonder if the issues that caused this quick accumulation of tria and good items are fixed. If they aren't maybe that should have happened before the wipe was executed. No point in wiping things clean if we can get them dirty again right after.

Just an additional comment about "millionaries". The economy is not intended to create millionaires at the present evolution stage of the game, also because there is not so much to spend those millions of trias in. If someone managed to get millions it's most probably caused by a number of other small bugs, first of all the weapons power and boosted stats. We will try to review this part in the future. I suggest you to avoid accumulating too much without an objective. In the future, new features will allow you to spend money better and in a meaningful way.

Be sure, this is not complaining !

I just wonder about the maths behind it.

Our pretty young char that was made our fund-keeper for RP issues settled in Hydlaa had a million tria collected by several people for the guild funds ... he went down to 10.000 ... a guild mate of mine went down from 80.000 to 59.000 ... I wonder if we had more money left for our guild if he had been keeping it ...

I'm not complaining... but I did wanna ask..

Was there a re-wipe of tria??  I made about 40k last night.. and woke up today to find my tria had been reduced down to 150k.

Is this likely to happen again very soon?

I'm only asking so I know how to plan around this with an event I'm running [I've already reduced the prizes but I'm thinking about scrapping the tria prizes altogether!!]

Thanks.
