Thanks Vulcas! You saved me hours of downloading a 2.4 GB torrent for playing a game which quality is questionable!

Yes, I'm very demanding on such things(I avoid games that have excessive negative reviews on GameFAQs, specially when the positive ones seem to be made by fanboys, just as an example), time to BUY something really good or to download a true classic from Abandonware.

Or perhaps I should go back to Anachronox, a good game despite some bugs.

It's quality isn't in question. And I'm a fanboy because it's such a brilliant game. I've played Grim Fandango, Curse of the Monkey Island (which is SO much more overrated than TLJ), Syberia I (not II, since I was so bland), Myst I-III, All of Yahtzee's games, a massive amount of Lucas Arts and Sierra games from back in the day, some newer games made using AGS (including 'fatman'... amusingly enough), The Dig, Paradise ( a prequel to Syberia), all the Broken Swords, the old Alone in the Darks, Day of the Tentacle (which was pretty funny), and loads more I can't remember.

The Longest Journey was my favourite.

And you can look at ANY other Adventure Game sites, and The Longest Journey would be listed as one of the top 20 games, and hailed as a classic.

In fact, read Adventure Gamers or JustAdventure or simply look at all the high-rating reviews  from websites all over the globe at Meta Critic

In other words, I may be a fanboy, but Vulcas is the opposite - he refuses to accept TLJ as a great game 'cause he hates the its writer... :P

Downloading 2.4 GBs on a 312 Kbps ADSL requires absolute certainty about the fact the game is really wortthy for the time wasted to download it. That's why I got "System Shock 2" from the "Underdogs" without blinking:

If you don't like it I'll be your biatch for a week :P

It's greatness isn't in question. The fact that it's the best adventure game ever might be debatable, but you definitely can't say it's a waste of time and effort to play...

If you don't like thinking, then you'll want to find awalk through.  A few of the puzzels in TLJ take a little while to figure out.

I kinda liked that fact though.

As for the long winded speeches.  I liked that fact too.  It felt like I was in a novel, rather than a game.

I can see how some people would either hate that or love it.  Just a personal preference type of thing I guess.

The speeches add some atmosphere to the game too. It's kind of like the drawn-out spaceship-moving-through-space scenes from 2001: A Space Oddysee (though ironically, for the opposite reason :P), it gives a sense of suspense, and forces you to slow down and take in your surroundings (and beautful graphics) as you listen to the backstory.

And if you really don't like listening to discussions about History or background or whatnot, you can always hit the spacebar repeatedly (to skip the dialog) or simply avoid asking questions like "What is this place?"/"What can you tell me about ___?"/"What's your story?" etc.

Personally I think over 8,300 brilliantly-voiced dialog strings is a good thing (and note that with the spacebar, you're not forced to listen to any of them if you don't want to). I hate games where the characters never talk, or only talk about things that are important to your current objective/quest...

True, he didn't make any good points against the game, only Tornquist.  And that has nothing to do with the game.  I mean, Michalangelo HATED the Catholic Church, but still painted the Sistine Chapel, which is the greatest work of art of all time.
