Death Realm
« on: April 20, 2007, 01:15:16 am »
I died from falling and I went to the death realm. The guide says the DR is a mystery and few return from it.

Should I just remake my character?

No, just follow some other players out. It's tricky the first couple of times, but you will do okay.

the Death Realm will be very, very huge and mysterious... soon (tm)  :innocent:

Use your roleplay and ask other characters in-game to exit the DR. They probably would lead you to the exit...

Remaking your character is an option.  I remade my character two or three times when I was new, and the death realm is far bigger now than it was back then.

omg who on earth designed this death realm. i mean, it's kinda ridiculous to die and search for the god damn exit for ages. what is the point in finding an exit from the death realm ?! i mean is this something to keep new players out of the game or what !? i'm really curious why on earth do players have to strugle so hard to find an exit. i know that dieing is a big deal and a player must be punished some how for this, but you can take a percentage out of his hp, or take the player somewhere very far, in a graveyard and make him walk like half an hour to the closet civilization, but this is simply pointless to me. to have to recreate my character just for dieing is pathetic. this system must change. and i got sick and tired of not knowing what's happening. why do i need to go to the forum to find out where i am, and to find out why are so many dead ends in this stupid DR. shouldn't the game tell e once i got there what's happening, and that i must find my way out ?
do you die so seldom in this game or why do people don;t get to often here in the death realm.
i'm feeling like crap right now after an hour of trying to get out. can someone guide me at least tell me where should i go(up, down etc..)

Some call it pathetic, others call it realistic.

There are a lot of people who end up feeling like that and it's a problem.  Games should not have this effect on people.  There are solutions however, and you probably would have had an easier time if you asked for help from another player while in game.

[As a relative newcomer let me add something..  I removed my first character due to being stuck in the deathrealm ( at the bottom though).  Someone tried to help me get back up but my GFX card draws the DR very dark and I soon lost sight of him/her.  I also removed my second character having got to the library and no further.  my current character has made the trip twice now and while I wont say how I got out believe me its not as hard as it seems when you dont know it.  be patient and while in game and in character ask or at least follow.]

You may know me as, Ragnom Ebbes or his seldom seen life long friend Magoos Utu

If the devs did that people would whine about it being anti-newcommer as well.. "Why am I warped into a graveyard so far away from everything?! Are you trying to isolate us? I can't find my way back!"

and many other complaints

Really if you follow the swarm of people on that path, you will find and exit... better yet, why not stand by the death guardian and ask for someone to lead you out of there.. Thats what I did when I started. [Though I admit I did remake my characters about twice, until I navigated out of DR successfuly with my third character] What fun is there in a unchallenging game? Really... If you suffer that much in DR on your own, then just ask someone for directions. Before you know it you'll be able to escape in your sleep... I know I can. ;)

I would rather that death was definitive, it would be the perfect deterrent for those who seek PvP without roleplay intentions and make people worry more about it to not anymore say "I am going to read some books and learn the Dark Way at the Death Realm" as if it was IC, though of course I doubt this would happen, yet most tabletop Dungeon Masters preferred definitive deaths in roleplay sessions. If your character died, is gone forever. I know some people inside the game who prefer to assume their characters simply have no chance of escaping the Death Realm.

I can almost hear the seething anger in your voice when you say /pvp/... Since when is pvp evil?

But really a permenant death would mean that people who work hard ont heir stats for months and suddenly die while afk... well.. actually I need not say anymore but that! And the death realm is very much IC, people make the mistake of thinking that our reality of death is similiar to PS... frankly its not, death is only an end in PS if you are very old. And having an /end/ to a player's life spand without their consulting is just, bad gaming.

You forget that planeshift isn't just role play...And that role play and a community does not make a game all on its own, they are important though! But role playing alone only goes so far. If you take role playing and a good game system, well thats a perfect match.

Actualy acording to the books in DR even old age isnt the end.Youll just reincarnate after some time.If i remember corectly at least.
The only two posible ends are beeing drained into the crystal even though no one is sure if you die or are transported somewhere or anything along those lines.
And the second death is persistent poisons that keep killing the person each time he reaincarnates. So you can ICly die and come back. But it is considered polite to wait a while and not run back to the place where you died 2 minutes after you did.
If I stand on the axis of the world will you mind if I say that the world revolves around me ?

What I don't understand is why do you train dark way in DR? I mean it makes sense but ICly your character has to die to learn it? Wouldn't it make sense that someone who's not dead would also know the same things about Dark Way as someone who is? I mean sure it's possible to be able to train Dark Way in death but should that really be the only way?

Sorry if this is off topic  :sweatdrop:
Saggi Lezeheso, The Whisper's Jest
Demoik and Rioqura, The Immortal Harrow
Vertum, Will of Dakkru

Duraza Darkom, Slayer of Kittens

Remember, Yliakum is not finished. It's a structure with 8 levels and various settlements. The time will come when you'll find Dark Way practitioners and trainers who can train you all the way in the world of the living. They just won't be in Hydlaa, Dsar Akkaio, or the Eagle.

Storywise, of course it's not the only way, nor should it be. :) But right now, it is and it's not a question of "should." *shrug*
