I have only one thing to say: Planeshift isn't Open-source!

So it's not possible to make liveCDs with it, 'cept if you ask permission from Talad, something I doubt that would have a positive answer.

Raleigh you can doubt ! but if you want to be sure, ask Talad yourself,
by the way nvidia drivers it not open source too and ?

PS : this not a topic on the legacy of the subject, just to ask some nice picture of PS to put on gensplash/bootsplash

Maybe you already watched and you don't like 'em, but until you credit me and don't claim it's your (or someone else) work,  you can use mines if you want:

As for legacy, I think Atomic Blue encourages the distribution among third persons: on the download page you're asked to use p2p. You're not allowed to use PS art out from the game, or to run your own server.

What's a liveCD?

A liveCD is one which can boot a fully functional operating system from itself. I have used Knoppix many, many, many times in rescue scenarios or when my hard drive just failed to boot at all. It's also a good way to carry an OS with you anywhere you want, a good way to test linux without installing/modifying anything on your computer (and thus less chance to mess something up). What loux is trying to say is that he created a liveCD (probably based on Knoppix which has all the drivers installed and can possibly detect all your hardware configuration) + install itself in the system memory (RAM) and simply play Planeshift from it. However, if I remember right, PS does save some configuration files after the installation, and that may be very desirable, does the liveCD also has the option of saving some files on the hard drive? (I'm pretty sure Knoppix has one such feature).

Anyway, congrats on the effort loux!

Nicey!

Now, some additional questions if I may. What sort of hardware detection does it use? What are the recommended hardware specs? (so that they blend in with the drivers you installed)

What about "Planeshift development environment" with Blender, The Gimp, Blender2CS, CVS, SVN, MySQL, PHP, a compiling environment, a coding environment, an audio-editing environment, a dds-viewer, pre-compiled Planeshift(client+server+NPCclient) and all official guides and links included?

Would be more fun to make :P
