What's a liveCD?
A liveCD is one which can boot a fully functional operating system from itself. I have used
Knoppix many, many, many times in rescue scenarios or when my hard drive just failed to boot at all. It's also a good way to carry an OS with you anywhere you want, a good way to test linux without installing/modifying anything on your computer (and thus less chance to mess something up). What
loux is trying to say is that he created a liveCD (probably based on Knoppix which has all the drivers installed and can possibly detect all your hardware configuration) + install itself in the system memory (RAM) and simply play Planeshift from it. However, if I remember right, PS does save some configuration files after the installation, and that may be very desirable, does the liveCD also has the option of saving some files on the hard drive? (I'm pretty sure Knoppix has one such feature).
Anyway, congrats on the effort loux!
