When I ran Planeshift Setup for the first time on my vista installation (Ultimate ed., PS client 019), i got the system-message "this program may not be installed properly". My PlaneShift Setup settings do not apply, unless when i launch PS Client from the "launch" button in PS Setup. When i start planeshift through the startmenu, the settings from PS Setup are ignored.

Is this a known issue or "is it just me"?

This message usually appears when an installer either produces an error, quits unexpectedly or is interrupted by the user.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling PS? Does the same error appear? If so, you might want to check if the download is not corrupted. Download the checksum tool on the download page and see if the checksum matches. If it doesn't, you should download PS again.

I have the same version (Vista ultimate x64) and did not encounter the problems you describe. So it ought to be "just you"  ;D

If it is on
nothing will be writen to your system regestry unless you right click the install and use it in admin mode

When I run the updater it come up as the normal box, with a completely black inside. The mouse, when I move ot over teh black area becomes the planeshift cursor, but other then that I found no ways to interact with the updater. It is on my firewall exceptions list and I have no problems connecting, except that when I do it asks me to run my updater. I am using Vista, and planeshift is installed outside of my user, but I'm the aministrator (and only user) so it shoudn't matter.

Did you check that your graphics drivers are the most recent?

I have not been using vista for very long and am having a hard time finding them. In the device manager screen under the ''sound video and game controllers'' tab it only has a sound device listed. "Under the display adapters", the next spot I looked, had a device listed as ''Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GU Express Chipset Family''. I wasn't sure if this was a video card or not (not being much of a gamer) and didn't manage to figure out if it was :( but hit the update button anyways and it told me it was up-to-date. I found nothing else that looks remotely like a video card. I have tried re-installing the game a few times.

Intel chipset, eh :) Try going to Intel's driver download page to see if they have a new version for you.

I clearly stated in my post that the drivers for that device were update . . . . .but I followed the link and re-installed the latest driver for it anyways, like you told me to. Needless to say this did not solve the problem. Perhaps it's not graphics related, since I had no issues with the main game (at least up to the connection screen) with the exception that it told me to run my updater. My thoughts on the matter were:

1) Could it be an issue of compatibility with Vista? - thus I read the entire thread, and people did not seem to have Vista related issues, and posted my problem in this thread.
2) Could it be an issue of drivers? - i found the only thing that looked remotely like a video card and made sure it was up to date.
3) Could it be an issue of my firewall? - I made sure the updater and main game were on the exceptions list.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: The poster in the end of this thread: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=28988.0 seems to have had the same problems. Since you told him to post system specs I'm going to do the same.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 1.73 GHz
Memory (RAM): 2038 MB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System

I hope this is the info you were asking for.
