My Complaint
« on: August 01, 2007, 02:24:16 am »
Hello Everyone.

Take a moment please and stop what you are doing. Let us pretend for just a
while that I am the teacher in front of the class. My word, there must be two
hundred of you out there. I have something to say I think it is important.
Thank you, now I have your attention.

Look at this crowd from all over the world, look at all the different age
groups. We have one thing in common, Planeshift. It is a game we play for all
different reasons. May it be because we like to do the crafting, the role play,
or just to dig gold all day. I heard one person say that it saddened him when
he had to leave because he so loved to role play and could not wait until he
could get back in game again. Though I also heard someone tell me that
Planeshift is not what it used to be. I asked what he meant and he told me that
years ago it was like a ‘big family’, but it is not anymore. I remember being
in school and putting thirty kids together in one room and expecting peace was
almost impossible. So putting together two hundred people in one room from all
over the world and hoping everyone will get along can be a daunting task.

I need you all to remember something; this game is supposed to fun. Yes, fun!
Lately the all I hear is complaints about the server being down and how weapons
are not what they were or the loss of money. People, people let us not forget
the real people behind the scenes that work so hard for us so we can play this
game. First Talad, let us thank him for his endless hours he has devoted to
this game so we can enjoy it. Then all the developers who try to fix everything
so it is as good as it can be. Let us not forgot the game masters who work for
our pleasure too. For them this game has become a job and they do their best.
If we think of it that way maybe we will not complain so much.

I admit I have not being playing so very long, but I have to tell you all that
I enjoyed reading the old role plays so much more then the new ones. Read "A
Student Disappears" that Einnol and Arka wrote and "Story of Zorbels." Those
stories are great. One day I was in game and a player came up to me and told me he was leaving, but he wanted me to know he liked the way I role played. I
talked to him in tells and tried desperately to get him to change his mind. He
said the only thing I could not do anything about, "It is not a family anymore." We need to get back to being a family like it once was. We need to come together and make this an enjoyable experience for all.

Then the question must be how to make this more like the family it once was. I
think, in my opinion, that we forget there are people behind the characters and
feelings can be easily hurt. People, even if you play an evil character, you
can be nice. Think about it for a moment please. I know of many people who have cried over this game, it is that important to them. Instead of complaining
about all the problems Plainshift has, let us be glad we have this wonderful
game to play.

I want to take a minute out to thank the people who have made this experience truly enjoyable for me. Aerianna, Agara, Arka, Alliva, Althos, Caarrie, Cilay, Einnol, Elyana, Frak, Farren, Gag, Grroww, Hather, Illysia, Indygo, Karark, Kitiranna, Lelerey, Lolitra, Mordaan, Magmir, Michtymog, Nerian, Noriin, Odisseo, Ollo, Oulyma, Puterom, Robertet, Rooker, Teraree, Thigied, Thinzall, Tolol, Tungor, Velh, and Zwenze. Please forgive me if I have left anyone off my list or misspelled anyone’s name.

I have one more request before you all go and that is to take one moment in
silence to pray for Jangeol’s safe return to us.

Ok now go back to play your game, but keep in mind that this is a game full of
real people and respect is very important here. Have fun!!

I also have to agree with what you said

Additionally, having so many players in planeshift there will always be things we think very differently about, but this shouldn't prevent us from at least trying to work or play together.
As to my experience in game I can say I do enjoy it and, besides, most evil characters I met actually were nice ( from an ooc point of view, of course  ;D ), and it was fun to play with them.

Well, to make this post fit into the complaint department I probably have to add a complaint, so:
Tolol, I had to think on you the last days hearing many - let's say very simple - auctions. Come back and teach those how to make them worth sitting down and listening to them
.....also a saddle that won't pinch the tail. One day!

There always have been people making threads about how the community used to be better in the past. I guess it's some kind of nostalgia that hits people when they realize that most of the people who where around when they started playing PS are gone.

The only thing that has changed over the years is the size of the community. I doubt the people were more friendly or more focussed on roleplaying in the past.

Communities do change over time, just as anything else. But I think the value of Leama's observations stand. Let us be excellent to one another, and concentrate on the good things that bring people together. Many of the names on that short list are friends of mine that are gone, and I miss them, but I doubt if everyone is gone forever, and I hold great hope for the future. One of the great things about this project is that it will be around for a long, long time. Thank you, Leama.

The community definitely changed, people went away .. many new people arrived. The one big family from years ago has become a gigantic family with a lot of different characters. Planeshift is becoming more and more popular and attracting more and more people. I think that's the main reason the 'family' feeling is fading away. Now the community is changing into many small families.

Take me for example, I know some of the people that were thanked in the initial post but the large majority I've rarely talked to or never even seen. Still I've been around longer than more than half of them I bet :P I consider the people from Vaalnor and the people I worked with before that my family.  Very few of them I still encounter in-game though. So I have to agree with Hitancrias, I don't think the community used to be better either, only more private and there were people around who moved on now.

We still have many great people in-game, we still have families around and I think we always have but Leama's advice is excellent advice. We're all here for the same thing, to have fun so lets make sure the people that interact with us also have fun.

Well said Leama - you have spoken for many of us. And as one who can't play at the moment, I feel quite bereft. Yes things change, some things get better, others, less so. But change is part of life. And as for new members - the more the merrier!

OH! And thank you for the compliment! I hope to start writing (and playing) again soon.

I agree with the sentiment behind this post PS has lost some of  the family members but there are always new ones around the corner, but as far as I am aware the player in question has gone into Military training and will be unable to play for the foreseeable future, his leaving isn't because of the deterioration of the community

Leama,
Well Said i could not say this any better
I too agree with you that some if not all the things mentioned here happen all too much ingame
It does take away from the expierence of being fully obsorbed int the game enviroment
I remeber when I was a young Enki how i cound not pull my self away from the game
But it seems the Client base has swong and very hard swing too
With the Power Players and Power Complainers and so forth
I sit back and look at the major changes ingame and i am in awww
Because I come from the days of Molecular Blue
And those who were there know what i am saying about the Aww of the game now
I find it so anoying when some one finds something to complain about ingame
They should be happy that some one put forth the efforts to make our home away from home
I am greatful you put what you said to words because I personally could not say it half as good as you have
I truelly appriceate you posting this I also hope others read this because it may make them think
"how is my actions going to effect 1 the Game 2 the people"
atleast one could hope
* lorac claps to you for your post
Thank you again

* Under the moon chuckles.

If a family it was, then it tended towards the disfuntional. There was always strife, always conlfict, but always a good time to be found somewhere. That has not changed.

Oddly, I can find no mention of Leama in any of my character logs, but most of the other names you mentioned are there. Must be a timezone thing.
* Under the moon recalls Einnol's story, and all the havok one little stone is causing...

Yes, 'is'. You didn't think the story was over yet, did you? *big, evil grin*

Very well said Leama

To me, Planeshift hasn't changed, it is the players who have. Many old players who knew how to make it feel like a family are gone. Instead, more players come just to play the game, not as many who really does it for role play and such things.

I have had and still have, a wonderful time in game with many great friends who have done a lot for me even irl, they have actually done more than some of them even know. Sadly is that many of them have left and instead there are new players, who aren't as easy to make friends with and many people doesn't talk with people they doesn't know.

As a result of this, the big family becomes splittered and then, also the family feeling fades. It's still there but not as it have been.

But I really appreciated your post Leama :)

*smiles and happily hugs her wonderful friend

I am thrilled to hear from you Magmir. Here is a big hug for you. I hope you are well. You make a good point; it is not the game that has changed it is the players. I cannot help but wonder if there is a way to get the old players that have left to come back. It would be nice to see the people come back that have been written up in the R.I.P. section and have the 'old family' feeling come back. These people have so much to teach us. Maybe I can really learn how really to role-play. Can anyone teach a role-play class?

So maybe the question is what can we do to make them want to come back? Or maybe just what can we do to make a new family for ourselves. I wonder what all of you think.
