Yliakum Government
« on: August 30, 2007, 02:28:15 pm »
[ooc] the yliakum government is forming, at the moment i am looking for a very small group of people to help me flesh out the finalities of the government, please note, this government will not hold any true power, its purely player run. however its purpose is for role play debates, in character disputes over certain issues (economy, dwarf discrimination, transportation crisis, stalactite warming.)

i am only looking for about five or so people, as the government is still in development, talk to me in-game, (Veir or Daeva) and ill asses your capability to contribute to this plan.

You can expect to see the first meetings in a month, as long as there is no major hiccups.

i want to stress again, this government is purely to inspire roleplay, people that attend the meetings can comment later on the discussions, members of the government can lose standing with people, dissent can arise and the people can take action against the offenders, or some members may represent everything your character wants and thus get praised as they walk through the streets, its up to you.

joining this government will not get you money, or power. i ask for only characters that have a strong political interest and a want to influence the community to join. (rp-wise once again)

well, this sounds really interesting, but as I can see is your home australia and this means I will never see your government in Game ...

You are 10 hours away ....

And this shows up another problem - if there ever would arise something like that ... when should be the official meeting times ?

I guess that if sometimes things like this will be implemented the working and opening hours will be Italian-Time  ;D
(which would be better for me ... only 1 hour away ...  ;)  )

But anyways I like your Idea !

Interesting. Not sure if I want to devote the time, but even if I'm not in it, it still sounds like a solid plan. Good idea.

I would suggest you change the name to something other than "Yliakum Government" - it will confuse many players.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Cititzen's advocacy group or something might be better.

Having rped an octarch i can tell you people get pretty darn snarky when another player takes on a role in government.

I wish you luck however and i hope it works out for you.

Thats because many players refuse to follow order and law, though I say law and order are  long over do! I would love to see an extream right winged party, a millitant party maybe, rise and quel resistance at sword's edge... A police state if you will.

But yeah good idea, different parties rising in yliakum is just another step towards order.

Why not set up a forum, or section of this forum, for running local government?

This would accomplish a few things:

1. Laws & regulations could be legislated.
2. Regulations on commerce could be posted for all to see.
3. Time zones wouldn't impede discussion.
4. Votes and polls could be conducted.
5. Politicians could campaign for votes.
6. Most wanted lists could be displayed.

Hopefully, someday in the future, an actual governement could be developed with GM's depicting the roles of high government offices and players elected into local positions. Where votes could be conducted in game and government announcements could be posted.

 :D

Unlike most games, a government in Planeshift seems possible. We have time in game, so things can be planned. We have days, so elections can be held. Because of its beta status, people signing up will be dedicated role players and overall good people. And most of all, the game is so confined, that we can actually start branching off into things like the department of treasury. Although, personally, I feel the leader should choose what departments and who runs them, since we have many political parties running in favor of different forms of government. To an extent however, because of the fairness the game offers, of no levels, and equality throughout, the game may be more like a Roman civilization, with people fighting for power, and every citizen trying to be the best in the political chain, while the dictator sits there and limits their chances at advancement. That would be interesting, but a life long reenactment of Sulla and Marius is not an ideal game, and our game may dissolve into chaos after awhile. I'm for it, just because it will offer an infinite amount of possibilities, ones that no single developer can implement, but can be created by a steady community. If this ever kicks off, PM me or keep me informed, I would gladly hold office in any department.

Thankyou all for your ideas :P

if you want to run with me on something give me a tell in game and i can explain it in depth with you, once again im usually going by the name of Daeva.

as for timezones, it will likely be held on weekends, so we have to highest possibility of people being able to attend. (i will happily stay up till midnight, heck i do anyway)

changing the name from yliakum government would be a good move, im not sure on how most people will re-act to us using terms such as vigesimi and octarchs. but we could go along the lines of council of vigesimi, or something, lay your ideas down and we will talk it through.

and again, thanks for all your input, im looking forward to seeing this take off :P

Avoid using any terms from the official Yliakum government. You're not the Vigesimi, and players will get upset if you try to write yourself or your actions into the setting. This will save you a lot of trouble, trust me.

I really like this Idea Roderyck, maybe worth to think about - the word "Forum-Yliakum" came to my mind while reading this.

And best of all - anyone from around the world could be part of it because there is no timezone-problem at all.

Thanks, Tolol.

I do graphic work on the side and could have a forum set up in no time at all. Here's a forum of mine I used for a different game:

http://z6.invisionfree.com/Evermoore

Let me know if this takes off and you'd like me to do that, Hydrolizer.
