Tears of Laarnx



The fading crystal light cascades
Lighting the mineral rich Ceiling
Rippling, like the stars of legend
Sparkling so brilliantly
Across the great cavern of our world
Bringing life to the darkening day

I sigh in breathless amazement
Captivated so by its beauty
Enchanted like a child
Watching a magician's trick
I am a child still
Beneath a performance of the gods

My ears closely listen
As the waters break across the bow
Beating out in percussion
Against the symphony of the sea
The gentle rolling of it's waves
Blending into an awry of tones

Dreamily, I watch
Entranced by the gleaming sparklets
The near glass surface of the water
Glistens in reflection
The display from the sky
Upon each breaking wave
 
"By the Gods!" I gasp
The warm summer breeze stirs
Massaging my face with it's breath
Mixing with the gentle rocking of the ship
My heart beats hard against my chest
Pounding in relentless Passion

My strength withers unwilling
A victim of this magnificent spectacle
Quickly, I close my eyes
Shutting out the dazzling lights
Too late, as the tears of Laanx
Burned their dance within my mind

My body yields in surrender
Adrift with my imagination
I glide among the lights
The glimmer of my being sparkles
Within the sequence of motion
That is the crystal's grace



ref: [ I have used the term of "the tears of Laanx"  to explain how ancients may have looked at the formations of lights across the cavern ceiling. The term references the period of sorrow of Laarnx after her disfigurement in the second Epoch. I have also used the term "The Brow of Laanx" in another tale. This is intended for lore, nothing more. It serves as a reference for me to use to explain navigation in my tales.  As there are no lights in the night sky that I have noticed yet

"Hmmmm?"  Jaycol laughs to himself as he orders another ale. "Been a spell since I did's a tune ta drink with." Taking a drink from the freshly poured mug of ale
that the barkeep handed to him. Jaycol turns away from the bar to the open tavern floor filled with the evening patrons. Raising his mug in a toast, he quickly takes another drink. Clearing his throat,  then with deep breath begins to sing out in a loud robust voice a merry drinking song to fit the occasion.


Till we all wake up tomorrow


I woke in da morning ta find meself
Lying on da street outside me house
With a couple o' quick shakes ta clear me head
I fumbled with da door and was off ta bed
Collapsin' in it's comfort like a  heavy weight
Me last thought was ta blame it all on me mates
With a loud groan I was soon fast asleep
For dis was only da first day o' da week

Give me an ale an' a mate ta drink it with
Set a few more aside ta keep our whistles wet
Soon we'll be lost in da crowd without sorrow
Dat is...
"Til we all wake up tommorow

I slept meself long inta da day
With a spash on me face I was back on me way
Ta da house where I got meself in dis state
An' ta have another set o' rounds with me mates
With an achin' head I walked through da door
Knowin' it'd be gone soon as I crossed da floor
Orderin' a couple mugs, I quickly drank one down
Ahhhhh! Can be such a joyish sound

We drank late inta the night without any thought
Linin' up mug after mug o' dat hefty drought
All thinkin, ta ourself's dat life is just great
With all dis beer, da girls an' o'coarse good mates
Dancin', laughin' an' singin' throughout da night
Some may not like it, but ta us seems right
Ain't nothin like a brew ta make one a happy fella
Dat is....

I hear her name
and I yearn for home
She holds my heart
Long as I roam

To the golden fields

I miss her grace
I miss her charm
She has long been the place

When my journey ends

Stamno Calls out for the best bloody drink in the tavern.  The keep hands it to him and he passes it to Jaycol.

"i heard once a poem told by a kran of a young Lemur girl, perhaps I can remember,

Love in the air,
the silent stair
of humble beast on beauty,
not all agree
with loving free
and so the beast watches from far
watching waiting
never hating
those who deny him his love,
for he who hates
this plan of fates
lives in fear of the end so near.

Stamno looks into his beer, and takes a long draught of it.

* Jaycol buys Samno an ale. "Well done." He says

Please my good sir
She said in a plea
Spare but a few triangles
Fo' an ol' soul in need


With a sorrowful heart
I reached for me belt
an' removed me fat purse
ta fetch some coins out

A fist full o' coins
did drop from me hand
An' made such a clamor

With a smile on her face
An' a gleam in her eye
She thanked her good fortune
Then quickly said G'bye

Weren't but a week later
When me rent was due
Dat from me bleedin' generosity
I was short a tria or two

So out in da street
I soon found meself
With no roof o'ver me head
Or da warmth o' a hearth

I huddled in an alley
Against da cool damp stone
Cursin' me misfortune
O' losin' me home

So I became a beggar
Just loiterin' about
When some ol' dame called da guard
Ta come oust me out

I glanced in her direction
Ta me shock, and surprise
Discovered that beggin' ol' lady
Had been me landlords wife

She gave an evil smile
Laughin' at me dropped jaw
An' as I was hauled away
She tossed me a tria

So I'll just wait a spell

When she sweeps da floor

Samno laughs heartily at Jaycols stories and calls for another drink.

He takes out a small book labeled "Stories Of The Lake"  and begins to read.

"A whisper is heard
a whisper of cold
a whisper 'tween this world an' the next

a whisper grows old
and a word is heard
a word said o'er and o'er 'gain

a shout comes now
a shout so loud
a shout right next to your face

the voice now roars
it roars like a beast
The voice of the lake in Squall."


The Nolthrir closes the book, smiling at the remembrance of home.

Jaycol orders another set of rounds sliding one over to Samno. "Nice" he comments

She walks with her head held high

Samno stares into his mug, listening to the song.

He starts out a poem

Samno grins at his rebuttal to Jaycol's song.

"so lad", he says, "what is your pick?"

Jaycol slides Samno  over a fresh ale

Our Final Kiss


The wind whispers softly across the quiet plains,
