I'm whiny?

I am according to a handful of project devs. And apparently broken quests don't count as being bugged:

Actually, I sorta take your side. That coming from a guy who has never done a quest in his life. Wait, no, I have... Sorta...

You don't do the quests? You're really missing out on the bulk of PS's gameplay. :)

Ver,

This is not a broken quest, but a limitation in our engine and there is nothing that Jeraphon can do about it. He has done a great job adding new quests and fixing existing ones, but he can't change the limitations in the engine. One day the engine will be improved and things get better. Until then, just take a deep breath, wait couple of hours and life will be as good as it was :P

Well I imagine there is one way to get around it -- let the player cancel the quests ("resetting" the NPC quest-giver's memory, effectively). I could see it being abused, but that could be coded around too.

The one thing I don't want to see in this discussion is the old "if you want it so much, sign up for the team and program it yourself" and change everything you're actually good at doing and sell your soul and yadda yoo. That line of argument is tired and falsely premised.

Well then why was the bug (because no matter what they say it -is- a bug) not forwarded to someone on the engine team to figure out a solution that may be implemented in the future? Instead of Jeraphon calling him a 'whiny bitch' (direct quote, so please excuse the profanity)

Well, it's because this more a problem with the overriding way that the engine code works. It's so hard coded. They have to either comprehensively work those kinds of kinks out of each quest individually (takes a lot of time) or mend those donut holes in the engine (also takes a lot of time). But it has to be recognized as an issue in the first place.

Ver,

I'm not sure what exactly are you trying to discuss here? The engine has its limitations and the quest is not broken. I see nothing to discuss here and just hope that some day somebody (might be me :D ) fixes the engine, but it is not a simple task. If you are here to discuss how the bug report was closed, then I don't think this thread will stay here long enough for any discussions. We all have our good days and bad days, and it includes you as well.

Farren,

It doesn't make sense to forward a bug report about a single quest to the engine team as a generic report how the engine is limited. Either make a new bug report telling that quests can be broken due to engine limitations when the player logs our/crashes or simply accept the fact that your report about a particular quest gets closed. If I saw a bug report about Allelia's quest assigned to me, I would probably simply ignore it.

The bug report was about a broken quest and the quest is not broken. So the report is closed and the story ends there. Engine limitations are known and will be improved in the future. Settings team is the one who is putting a constant pressure on the engine team to get it improved.

I didn't mean about the individual quest, but the whole thing where quests tend to break down if the server crashes at a bad moment.

Bereror,

The thing is I didn't know that this was due to a limitation of the engine. I thought it was just the quest, which was why I reported it as the quest.

Understood. And I think Jeraphon tried to explain it in his first reply to the bug report. Might be not the best reply, but I hope we all understand it now :)

I still don't think there was any good reason for calling Ver a 'whiny bitch' :/

Wait.

So you give an item, are asked something, log out and cannot continue quest afterwards?

That sounds like a (normally avoided) mistake in quest writing...
Shouldn't fixing this be possible within like one minute?

Probably not, or they'd fix it.
