Weapons "of stone"
« on: November 20, 2007, 07:53:19 pm »
One thing I have always wondered about these is is it really just an awkward way of saying the weapon is made of stone or is there some undetectable (to me) magic effect associated with the moniker? It would seem to me that if it is the former it might be better to just say "stone dagger" but then you might need to change the descriptive text from "a simple metal dagger" or whatever the generic phrase actually is.

The only bonus an "of stone" weapon I've ever seen is a multiplier to the base /slash damage (x1.3 - I think)
I've always taken the "of stone" to be the kind of magic used to enchant the weapon not the material.  My guess was that these weapons were made/enchanted by Brown Way mages.

Or the weapon is just made of stone. How do you think the first arrow-heads and daggers were made? Not with metal-casting ;)
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Kind of hard to picture a stone claymore (could be stone flakes wedged in a wood frame though, the method has been used in earth history  :detective: )

However, it seems like the normal nomenclature used for weapon material has always been: "material" "weapon"
copper dagger
iron short sword
platinum long sword

The "of" weapons always seem to be enchanted in some way
I always took "of stone" to mean enchanted for extra damage (if I'm wrong, it would be kind of hard to believe a stone short sword would do more damage than a regular steel short sword)

Only the settings Devs know for sure  ;)

I've always suspected some of the weapons were intended to give some minor protection from the various ways but that it has never been implemented. This might be the case with some of the gem bearing weapons, alternatively they could give some minor benefit to such castings. It is certainly something of interest to me.

You might want to check out an amethyst (? I think) encrusted weapon.

The weapon name that always confused me the most, were the bladed weapons "of the hammer"  ???
