Okay, seems to be the right time again to bring up this topic. Since
Duraza's thread went quite a bit offtopic I decided to start a new one. My main intention is it to keep people aware of this issue for hopefully soon we will find it changed.
First off, I won't take care about sounding nice, kind or friendly, so feel free to feel provoked. You may even have a reason to feel offended then. What will follow is my mind spoken about guilds and the situation as it is these days, quite irritating, and I would like to see it changing for good. Now let's see why these harsh words.
The days this thread was created and on fire I was quite optimistical on things would change and people would make their minds up. Obviously I was quite wrong with my hope.
Since the same days my guild and me are pondering now with what guilds we could start an rp. There are many guilded individuals, fantastic roleplayers, innovative and extremely imaginative and whatnot, no doubt, many! There also are many guilds around, yay many! But which of them is having any purpose and realizes that in a roleplaying way? Where are the guilds whose members roleplay the reason and purpose of the whole association? One can count them on the fingers of one hand.
Overview
Group 1: The IRCers
The majority of all guilds are ooc and have the only reason of the mentioned chatroom. These are the so called massrecruiting guilds that I consider the ones to turn once eager to roleplay newbies into any ooc-chatter without any profile, according his whole parenting guild. The concept of roleplay the members of such guilds have is even dangerous: they roleplay in an ooc manner. Example: Recently I was in Kada's and enjoyed respective people rping to cast Flame Spire within the room, of course many jumped in and soon the whole room looked like one had to wonder why Jef still idled outside watching the tavern burn down. But so what?! One of the same guild even claimed to be of Kada's staff, representing Kada's! Wow thats how it goes baby! Thats the common roleplay-standard around, fancy uh?
Group 2: The Intermediates
Then, of course there are still others. The next group of guilds around, according to number, is the one having actually not really a purpose, but bears some members having an idea of the setting and is about teaching the members. Thats pretty cool, as newbies joining, sooner or later are educated enough to freely choose whether to roleplay or to simply go leveling a bit, questing now and then and having a nice time. Still though, even in the latter case those would keep up the atmosphere of the game for others. As this group can be considered to be a hybrid of group 1 and 3 I wont go into no more.
Group 3: The RPers
The last group would be the one consisting of guilds containing almost only roleplayers. People in these apparently often stand or sit around and talk strange stuff, often doing some actions never possible by game mechanics. And they cant be seen.. of course, they must be standing or sitting somewhere else.
Details
Group 1: The IRCers
The first group of course has and will always have the largest number of members (unless serious changes occur, like Neko suggested one for instance). They are always sort of ooc and every newbie will be able to find himself into it way quicker than into the weird language of those freaks of the third group. Also they have spoilers they of course offer at once, baiting the newbies, and the new ones will join immediately as they wont have to struggle no more to find the fortress. Needless to say that this first group of guilds has no requirements at all, thus massrecruiting. They just take everyone not having a tag floating above his head, I mean, would they bother to know about that ones intention of developing his char? lol nope, soon he wont be eager to rp anymore anyway harhar..
The Group3: The RPers
The third group, rumors say they play as PS is meant to be played, of course are both, of the smallest number in total, and each containing the smallest number of members. Thats not miraculous, in the end they "need" to roleplay recruiting. I am sure they are patient and are ooc with their friends too, having fun and such, I have not even much of a doubt all of them provide the full list of spoilers as well, but still.. they roleplay recruiting, and they have requirements if a char would fit into their group. This all takes time, although an atmospheric, interesting, fun and exciting time, but its still time the baited newbie would already have checked the trainers' list and maps of the other guild, and could already be on his way to max out his char. And.. the others said he needs to max out his char, show off with rare items for no apparent reason, and cast Flame Spire as frequently as ever possible and wherever he is, otherwise he would be a pwn3d n00b!=o
However, this is not entirely the newbies fault. Its understandable that a new one often cant know such. Guilds should have to prove they are worth to be a guild at all, instead of bunches of fake-rpers turning PS into an MSN-substitute.
So, now having spit my view about whether things changed since Duraza's thread, not at all that is. I know many of you cant but have to just agree that guilds are very poor the way the most of them are at the moment.
And the Guilds Forum shows a seemingly endless list of guilds, almost all of them are given a purpose, many of these of course are faked though. And meanwhile I just got tired and bored of having to watch a great institution guilds are, wasted and misused. And to be honest, I even wondered some serious time if to roleplay the stupidity of other guilds as they make no sense icly, but that can be nothing but a desperate move on a low level.
Alright, these are my observations so far, brought to you spiced by some sarcasm, and maybe i am going to post again in another 4 weeks, still having some hope things could, however, change..
