a log shortcut
« on: March 04, 2008, 10:27:12 pm »
with changes to the location that the logs are stored i've got a new wish list item

a short cut to the new logs folder.

i know it will be pretty simple for windows, but not sure how much harder it would be for linux and macs. but i can't imagine it being too much hared.

as i understand it the software now works with the system variables for the user's home directory. so the shortcut configs and logs are now in a different location from the program directory. just something to keep things simple for the players.
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

Agreed. I self-solved this by making my own link, but needed help to find out where the logs are now stored.

In Linux / OSX it should just be a matter of a symlink.

All I did was redirect my old one in its properties.

Er, no. There can't be ONE shortcut to the log files, because there is not ONE place. There is a different place for every user.

The only thing PS could tecnically do, is to ask for the main user playing the game and then make a shortcut to his place. This would be kind of weird imho, but if people want it..

I am very happy that the USER DATA is stored in the directory of the USER and not the PROGRAM. I recommend everybody getting used to this, because it's the natural way actually.
If you having issues because the folders are invisible, then I just recommend making a symlink/shortcut in your own directory or on your desktop (which is also stored in your directory) to it.

Not trying to be a jerk, just stating the facts: you are just used to an abnormal place for storing the logs  ::)

Me too.  At least from a *NIX standpoint, this is a lot more standard and makes lots of sense to me.

Nonsense. The names of the folders may be different, but every OS has some way to identify where it is. For Windows it's %appdata%\PlaneShift

If the installer(whatever) knows where to put the logs, then it knows where to link to.
