Stats issue & Dakkru's curse saved on logoff
« on: May 09, 2008, 10:13:46 pm »
Having gone hunting a lot lately, I also happened to get whacked a lot, which in turn made me get Dakkru's curse one too many times. However, I do believe the punishment is fair so this is not a complaint against that but rather an implementation decision criticism.

I disagree with the fact that Health, Stamina, Mana,  Mental Stamina and Dakkru's curse time should be saved on logoff and resumed after login, no matter when that happens. Let me explain...

If you get hit by a monster, or get very tired during a long run, then logoff and return the next day to play (in realtime), you will resume with the same low health or the same low fatigue. If you happen to have Dakkru's curse, it will also be resumed. But in game time does not stop... so in fact after 24 hrs I should be healed, and I should not have the curse anymore either. It just doesn't make sense.

Strange, I thought that if you logged off for 30 minutes and then came back it was gone. Never knew the timer only ticked when your character is online. ???

I have seen this, but it appears to be random. I have logged out with Dakkru's curse active before and sometimes when I log in the curse is lifted and I just have to regen my stats, other times it is still in full effect. I have been told by others that it has to do with how much time you spend in-game with the curse before you log out. I have not verified this, but agree that 30 minutes is 30 minutes logged in or not. It should be cleared even if your stats don't regen until you log back in.

Others have found that if you load a new map you and then log out and back in the curse is lifted, I don't like that it can be gotten rid of by just loggin out and then in but I also would like to not have to waste 30 minutes of in game time no matter what.

Death sucks, get used to it. (more changes to your death experience will come and we welcome constructive opinions)

Also if there is a bug that alleviates it REPORT IT.

The Tech Demo does not work if people do not report bugs.

If anyone finds a work around or a cheat we want you to report it so we fix it.

Game balance is a huge priority to us and we will never get close if players hide advantageous bugs.

Enjoy Death!

I agree with death.. and I have just posted about it on the wish list's child board.

I have an idea..

The system is aware of the power of the fighters before the fight itself starts.. That data can be used:

Player A engages into fight against Player B..

If powA is similar to powB, then fatality goes without punishment. (one dies and goes to 'hell')
If powA is far superior (50%+ maybe) than powB, then fatality ends in punishment by degrading the Apow to the levels of Bpow.. for a standard period of time (I speculate 1 day) but also, there should be some reward for Bpow.. like bestow of the greater power of A for maybe the same period or less.

Still, I think that these things should come back to normal but then It may be also abused.. so perhaps considering it to become permanent or extending the punishment period would be a wise decision if the objective is for the players to be aware of the survival instinct of individuals.

I have not seen such arrangement in other games.. If you guys know of it, lemmeno.. I think this would make a huge difference between PS and the rest (I did not say it's necesary.. PS is class apart enough for me)

But if there is a guild war, then these settings would not apply. Just plain death.

If my explaination is uncomprehensible, I could extend.

I am not criticising Dakkru's curse, just its implementation. If I get the curse and then log off and come back in 8 hours or so IRL time, I expect it to be lifted. In game time passes whether I am in or not, this is one of the base facts of MMORPG's, namely persistent worlds.

The stats issue is not linked to Dakkru's curse in any way, but it does behave in the same way. If I get low on health for any reason (e.g. fighting with a moster), then log off and come back in 8 hrs, I still have the same low health. Again, in game time passes whether I'm in or not, so normally I should be regenerated by then, since in game a couple of days will have passed.

Simply put, I don't agree with the current implementation. Maybe it's not even intentional. :)

I will create a bug report as soon as I get the chance.

I agree with Ralleyon.  I never had this happen until yesterday.  I died in the afternoon and came back 12 hours later to still have the curse in effect.

It's not about whether death sucks or not.  Clearly it does because personally, my character is unplayable for as long as the curse is in effect.  So with the curse on, I log off since I can't do anything in game anyway.  So what's the difference if I log in and sit to wait the curse out, or if I log off?  Elsewhere, logging off was considered an 'exploit'.  How is not being able to play the game for as long as the curse is on you and logging off as a result an 'exploit'?

As Ralleyon pointed out, game time passes whether you are logged in or not so why should the duration of your character's curse be different in that regard?

It is just a technical issue, relax.

I am sure it can be addressed.

What's this about wasted time and unplayable characters, now?

Monala was perfectly playable as I roleplayed her traumatized state after she escaped from Dakkru's realm for the first time! [Hint, hint ;)]

@Candy

Erm, no offense, but that's not a healthy workaround (read bug). I meant that with regard to the first quote in your post.
