Alternative Solutions
« on: June 20, 2008, 04:02:59 pm »
There are some quests that could be solved in many ways (at least it's signalised so) but I was always afraid to risk the other option.

I particularly think about some Kra quest about artifacts. Is there some other way to solve it excluding betrayal?

I wonder if there is any risk of alternative solutions to get quest blocked permamently?

I made few quest in alternative way but I wonder if it's always possible.

If not ot would encorouge players to seek other than straight solutions.

What do you think?

we do not give information about quests on the forum. You must pick and do the quest as your character would do it. if you have advice on the quest you can pm email rizin http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=30268 and she will advice you on more, you can also find her on irc.

Your character should only perform actions consistent with his personality, or there will be consequences.  If an action required by a quest doesn't' feel right for your character, don't do it.  You can always make another character with a different personality.
"Here's to lowering caskets of old friends choice and consequence we'll birth a new day with the death of an old and start over, start over.  Here's to burying hatchets in those who you'd never call your friend...we'll birth a new day with the death of an old day and start over, start over!"

Also, one character can't get all of the quests. So the way you solve a quest determines which other quests will become available to you and which will be blocked for ever. So your choices do have consequences indeed.

But I'm not talking about solutions !!

I'm talking about if it is always possible to finish quest with some results and not to stuck it up like many did.  :beta:

I doing my decisions according to my character alignment but I'M ASKING IS THIS ALWAYS A SOLUTION FOR GOOD AND BAD ALIGNMENT??  8)

And I'm asking because I want to that in way according to my character description. But sometimes it seems I have no choice.

And answer YOU CAN ALWAYS LEAVE THIS QUEST UNDONE is not satisfying me.  >:(

All quests can be completed and have results (except for a very limited few that are bugged. If you think you found one of those, ask a GM). Not all results are positive. Not all quests have a good and bad option. Some only have one option, others have various options.

Ask a thief for work and you shouldn't expect to become a hero.

I'm glad that questing finally has some aspect of challenge and the ability to screw up. Before it was just walking around, guessing the phrase and collecting the reward.

As abilities grow our quests grow. The older quests will eventually be expanded to include multiple endings etc - but it takes a lot of time on top of an already busy schedule. So bear with us as things continue to improve.

Yeah, quests are a lot better than they were even month ago. You guys are doing great job.
Less bugs and all. But there are two sides of the medal  :)

First - carrot : Absolutely great idea is that npcs recognise the character by name,  if he/she were doing some errands for them earlier.  \\o//
Thats really fantasic and makes a lot of more like rp not just a 'quest machines'

Then - stick . . I still would like to have a possibility to change some decisions during proccess.

F.e. A sents me to B for x. Then B tell me that he wont give me x, unless I will cheat A. I agree but talking to A I'm changin' my mind and confessing all and we both wonder how to make B to pay for his deeds (yes, yes HIS - you know what I mean  ;) )

I know I probably wanting to much but thats just something I would find really useful. :)

The possibility exists in at least one quest that I know of and probably more that I never discovered.

It's not as easy as it sounds though. Writing quests like that is pretty complex and takes a lot of time. Like Rizin said, the abilities of settings grows and the versatility in quests grows along with it.

The quests aren't all "good vs. bad" - some have more of a law vs. chaos bent, others might simply be which of two different groups you find favour with, and I can even think of one that allows you to gain faction with three different groups out of a total pool of  :-X

...I've said too much. Just do the quests as your character would. Find out for yourself!  :detective:

Yeah. I have learnt my lesson. No more hanging out with bad guys . .   :innocent:

Even if I had to get rid off some quests.   X-/

So bye bye Z. , D.W., K. and others  :P

I've got a Mission ;D

That was pleasant.

I do wish that there were a way to cancel a quest -- maybe a second confirmation if it's a one-time only quest instead of a flat denial, or some way to tell the NPC that you don't want to continue it anymore. I do like a clear quest book.

Being able to clear the quest is useful not only in cases where you can't/don't know how to complete it, there's one quest I decided I don't want to complete since the item I'm supposed to bring back, I want to keep for myself even though it properly belongs to a certain stuttering dwarf  ;)
