Stat Cap Proposoal for the Future
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:19:11 am »
that each race has a Set number of Physical stats to possibly allocate/train
and a set number of mental stats to allocate/train

Currently everything is set to a max of 200

Well as a mage like character i think it would be great to use my 600 physical stats in a differnt manner
like 120 strength 140 endurance and 340 agility seen as how i need to avoid blows and not deal them
then focus my mental stats towards the ways i wanted to focus in.

Same for the warriors , if you wanted to be a hard hitter , up the strength down the agility.

Also i was thinking this sort of formula could also be incorporated against Job Skills / combat skills / magic skills.

The Why for Jobs
- To force people to become specialists if you want to be good at any job
- To encourage trade
- To encourage team work

The Why for Way skills
- To become more efficient at what you do
-To feel like your character really is a blue way / crystal way mage ect...

The why for Combat.
-So you have a perfered weapon style
-So your alternative weapons for different styles  are secondary in the end

Over all Why
so there is some sort of differance between each player to expand on individuality and increase uniqueness which will hopefully create enough differance to amplify the role playing enviroment.

** But of course this is a pointless addition at this stage , as the number of skills avaliable is limited and so many people have already maxxed everything in particular areas.

---------

edit : it will also make you more inclined to follow the path you made in character creation

But people change in mind and body through their life.

You could dream to be a knight when you'r young and play with sticks and swords, but later when you see that real swords hurt, you may want to stay away from battle and hit with an arrow or magic spell.

Or you can find in the middle of your life that you have a hidden talent.

Think again, would you like being a true warrior, then realise that's not rly what you want, and you want to change and for that have to start a whole new character?  :-X

no you would be a trained warrior , that picked up a new series of talents.

in the real world you spend your first 20 years of working life as a farmer

you have all those skills , habbits and physical attributes built up.

you then descide durring your midlife crisis you want to be a lawyer.

you then dedicate time money and effort to understanding law.

so you then become a moderate lawyer who understands farming

and end up being the common lawyer for all the farmers in your district because of your cross classing.

(i do hope that makes enough sence)

But, logically, what is stopping you from maxing out your lawyer skill just as much as anyone who's been a lawyer from the start? Spending the first 20 years of your life farming doesn't mean you lawyer potential is limited. Going by human/irl standards anyway even most lawyers don't start studying law until they're 16-18.
There is an alternative, more probable theory that 9/11 was in fact caused by Hanson's 1997 smash hit 'MMMBop.'

i did Read it , and in no way was i under the impression that the dev's chose to do things in this fasihion.

the way the game presents it's self with the limitations that are defined in the information about races.

still leaves one to assume the way stats are done would basicly remain the same

P.S , i said first 20 working years

so thats what 16-36 , another 15 years learning law you would be 51 , 60-65 is retirement

Another point: fictional races may have long lifespans. Kran are silicon-based, what's to say this means Kran effectively don't age at all? In most pop-culture-fantasy, elves live for anywhere between several hundred to several thousand years. It's for this reason that ageing is almost never implemented in MMORPGS. Who's going to play a human race if it means their character dies after one IRL year, when they can pick the elf who lasts for five IRL years

absolutely no idea where your going there.

I was suggesting along these lines.

The proposed cap for the Kran race is level 8 in each rank of magic
thats 6x8 = 48.

I am proposing that you can learn upto 48 ranks of magic divided any way you choose.

or a more fesiable solution of 30.
so you cannot master one way to far.

As it was mentioned earlier, balancing stats will be addressed when the time is appropriate. We are not currently at that stage.

Kaos: the point I was making is that if someone lives for several hundred years instead of 80-ish, they would be able to do a lot more, potentially become, as was an example used earlier, an olympic gold medalist in over 5 different spots

Actually... No.

Basing this on Olympic gold means were are talking about the cream of the crop, best of the best. And for that you need to have perfectly tunned muscles to fit the job. And if you have the muscles of a wight lifter say goodbye to being a runner. Its simple biology really. No matter how much time you got your not going to run at anywhere near Olympic level if you are made of muscle and weight 330 pounds(150kg).
Likewise you are not going to be able to lift a 660 pound(300kg) weight if you have the body build of a swimmer.

This would frankly make both sense and a good gameplay element to implement. But seeing as balancing is far from where the project is right now i think this is in no case a valid discussion as too many things are valid to change.
