New client -- 0.4.03 -- updates available now.
« on: December 01, 2008, 12:02:51 am »
The new client should again support intel and ppc-based mac equally well. Also, read the file README-osx in mind before reporting problems.

Enjoy!

-Trymm.

(from README-osx:)

All user configuration files should be located in

<Home directory>/Library/Application Support/Planeshift/

Hence, references to configuration files that need to be edited, is relative to this
location. Try to avoid editing files in the location where you installed Planeshift,
as those modifications will be lost every time you update the client.

Known issues:

1) OpenAL is now used by default. Unfortunately, OpenAL is not supported
in the 10.3.9 client. Hence, in order to revert back to CoreAudio, you need to
open the file
<Home directory>/Library/Application Support/Planeshift/psclient.cfg
in a text editor, and add the following line at the end of it:

System.PlugIns.iSndSysRenderer = crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.software

If this file does not exist, then just create one containing this line.

2) Some graphics cards have problems with texture compression. If you
experience problems loading the game disable texture compression by
doing the following:

Open the file:

<Planeshift install diretory>/data/config/r3dopengl.cfg

in a text editor. Locate the following line and delete the leading semicolon:

;Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

should be:

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

Save the file (be sure the file is saved as text only).

3) By default, PlaneShift will go into pause-mode when the window
looses focus (ie: is not the top most window). If you want Planehift
to keep running when the window does not have focus (ie: when you
switch to another window), open the file

<Home directory>/Library/Application Support/Planeshift/psclient.cfg

in a text editor, and add the following line at the end of it:

System.RunWhenNotFocused = true

If this file does not exist, then just create one containing this line.
Save the file (be sure the file is saved as text only).

4) By default, shaders use the Cg toolkit from Nvidia. We have seen
some problems with this toolkit on machines with X-1600 graphics card
from ATI. If you experience strange graphics behaviour, or crash when
attempting to run PlaneShift, disable these shaders:

Open the file

<Home directory>/Library/Application Support/Planeshift/psclient.cfg

in a text editor, and add the following line at the end of it:

Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Fragment=false
Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Vertex=false

If this file does not exist, then just create one containing this line.
Save the file (be sure the file is saved as text only).

Finally: please report problems back on the PS forums. Your experiences are invaluable in continued development and support of the OSX platform.

Enjoy!

is there a torrent link for .4.03?  I can only find links to .4.02 for Mac on the downloads page.  or are the various modifications you listed considered .4.03? sorry in advance if these are dumb questions but I downloaded .4.02 a few days ago and have yet to make it work.  I've been looking in the forums for info, but all i can find seems out of date or not relevant to my set-up.

i am not sure there is a torrent but you can download the client from http://psmirror.org/ and unless you tell us more of what your issues are we cant help you in trying to fix them. you can also just run the updater and it should update you to the newest release.

thanks Caarrie, I posted about my specific problem here:

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=34057.0

instead of starting a new topic.  I'll just try the new one and start over from there.

You need th 0.4.03 client. Use the psupdater. That saves you from downloading more than what has actually changed. There should be plenty of posts on this forum on how to use it.

Im not sure if I will be the only one, but it might be helpfull.
I had some performance issues on my graphics, audio runned fine, but just the graphics where a bit choppy
and the textures where quiet dark.

I got this fixed at the end by renaming the planeshift folder in:

<Home directory>/Library/Application Support/>

And started the game again, so I start with clean settings.
And it runs fine now, all I have to do now is moving some bits back like screenshots and chatlogs.

edit: Fixed the old configuration also, althru it became very dark now..
Problem with my old config is that somehow the FPS cap was set to 11FPS ;)
Changed this in the ingame options and it's alright again.

It took me a few tries running the updater to get it to work, luck of the draw I guess, but I finally got the new client installed. So if it doesn't work the first few tries, don't give up.

I have to say that the game is running better than ever on my Intel Mac with OS 10.5.5. The graphics look great, the audio is no longer hollow, and I can quit the game without getting an  "Application Unexpectedly Quit" error. Cheers!  \\o//

I have the same problem. Almost unplayable since the textures are black most of the times after adding the:

Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Fragment=false
Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Vertex=false

in the psclient.cfg

So I wonder what you mean by renaming the planeshift folder. Or is there another solution perhaps?

Edit: I removed all the files (saved the logs and options to move them back later) in the Library/application support/planeshift folder and restarted the client. It solved the choppyness, but did not solve the problem with the darkness at all - still running in a pitch black world!  :'(

Several people -have- noted the blackness/darkness problem. If you could explain in full how you did this, that would help them TREMENDOUSLY.

Have tried the mentioned solution to rename the folder in Application support and it did not change anything. It may not be a valid test though, as I had to use pssetup to change some settings to make the client work on my system (OSX 10.5.5, 1 GHz G4 Mac) at all.

I updated my post above, I got the old config working again.
But I have now all of a sudden the same darkness issue as you guys.

-edit: played around, and using one of both of the lines:

Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Fragment=false
Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Vertex=false

Both cause this issue, if I add the the two lines I cannot see anything. If I use one it's a bit better.
But I removed both lines completly from the config now and I can run around without issues so far, and no darkness.

I know. removing both lines has wonderful lightning - but the Mac freezes as soon as I get close to Hydlaa! Old happeneing - thats why we actually did get these two lines for Intel Macs And other models with Radeon X1600 Graphics card!  :)

I am sure that Trymm will find the problem  ::)

this is not just a mac issue so i am not sure that Trymm will fix it alone ;) see http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=34264 and the related bug report http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=2550

Ok sorry about that, I wasn't sure if this would solve it.

I run a ATI Radion 2600 my self, and this two lines solved my previous darkness issues, but they where not to bad.
But at the moment it's a bit darker for me then usual, but colours are looking good..

for those that have problems with getting the above fixes to work correctly here is an app that will "install" each of the fixes you pick for you.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nzbakwdjytt

put the file in your ps folder and run it like any other app select the fix you want and then click the "fix ps now" button do this for each fix you want, the app will tell you that the fix was applied and take you back to the list. This app will also revert the fix if you pick that option. the icon used came from http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=19090.msg210218#msg210218

Please let me know if this is helpful.

this app does NOT include the fix for those with the intel gma x3100 Texture downsampling fix that can be done via the setup app.
