ogsixer, the only port required for any router is just 13331.... if you opened from 0-13331 that defeats the purpose of having a firewall all together.  Too many ports open leaves your computer vunerable.

Perhaps its a bad catch phrase
« Reply #169 on: January 06, 2004, 04:48:54 pm »
I have had this problem for quite a while; however, I started noticing that I was getting a \"name is already taken\" error on the first try every time. That does blow the idea that the server cant send data back to my client.

Odd enough I just tried to create a character with a name like \"alskjdlfnelsidfenklihcvbl\" to see if i got the \"name already taken\" error and the bloody thing worked.

Perhaps, just perhaps, the catch phrase that returns the error for a used name is terminating the server socket?

Okay, so after about a dozen times of trying my char still won\'t upload. I _am_ using a proxy server, but it\'s configured properly and I set up the firewall to allow both inbound and outbound UDP communication on port 13331. When I try to upload, I can actually see the communication happen in my activity log. However, still no luck. I keep getting linkdead messages and sometimes just nothing happens for about 30 minutes resulting in having to delete the account every time. As far as I know, I\'ve tried all the solutions in this forum, including the compatibility setting of psclient.exe and using the IP address (although the DNS was being resolved just fine before). I\'ve been asking for help in the official IRC channel but received none. So, is there any way I can still play this game or what? :(

Try and see if your account is valid by visiting this page . If it is not, delete it and remake it.

Hello everyone.
I was so happy to try this game but, gess what, I have linkdead message.
I\'m using win2000, I specified the right IP (203.81.47.74) and I configured my firewall (to let ps communicate through port 13331 UDP).
Bu it still dosen t work, I still get linkdead message.
So I m wondering if there is other port I have to open (tcp ?) (but it seems port 13331 is the only one I have to open) or if ps is known not to work with win2000.
Thanks to everyone (and not only to those who may answer me) and have a good day.

Nevermind I just succeeded in login .... I don t know why, I didn t change anything ...

Xahou, if you have received the Database error, you can delete your own account here.

Not quite that simple...
« Reply #178 on: January 13, 2004, 12:50:32 am »
For me it doesn\'t seem to be quite that simple. You see, the thing is, I\'ve been playing PS for about, say, three months now, without a single problem. Then I acquired DSL. Then the fun was over.... I thought I could FINALLY play PS without having to worry about wasting a week\'s salary for one PS session, and now I appear to be deadlink! When the client doesn\'t crash immedeately trying to connect that is. I don\'t get it. Does the client configure itself for 56k when first connecting or something like that? Like I said, I haven\'t had a single problem before DSL. I don\'t have any firewalls, I don\'t run in XP, but in Me.
I really REALLY want to get back to the Plaza and find some crystals or something.... :(

Draco, if your DSL modem is connected through a router it will give you this linkdead message.  (Since a router has a built in firewall).

If this is the case, just open up port 13331 for UDP through your router settings.

PS. No Planeshift does not configure to your specific connection.
