What would you like accomplished in future gameplay?
« on: April 29, 2013, 04:04:11 am »
Choose what appeals best to you during the next planeshift development and upgrade. I'am not a moderator and I do not own planeshift, these options are just here to point out how many people prefer one thing over another. If a game developer see's this poll I highly recommend upgrading the game by what the end poll result is, if a player moderator see's the post I recommend telling the development team about it. Again these are just suggestions and I hope many will participate, maybe we will have new adventures to think about in the future.

Oh, Roled ... "more players" are hard to "develop". ;)

I believe such a kind of poll should have been "multiple choice", if someone prefers a subset (more than one option, but not all).

And my option is: (•) More fun, less grind.

What I am really looking forward to is high quality 3d art for the missing races (genders). The addition of nolf was a great step forward, but that was quite a while ago.

More role players and folks who are interested in learning to role play.

A cure for boredom.

A bottle of wonder.

Seriously though, the game is good enough for role play. Just needs more people.

Which is why I suggested 'more outreach'- it seems to me a game of this caliber, with so many play options (quests, rp, skills, rp, events, rp) and is FREE should be teeming with players.  I don't want to rehash the way there are not... discussion.   What can we do going forward? Is it listed on people's FBs and other social media? Do we invite our friends to play? Is it in online listservs? (these are real questions, not rhetorical ones).

The problem is that the game needs more emphasis on developing role play over assets. All of those options are nice, but if they are not developed with the expressed intention of doing it in a way that promotes RP, it will be wasted. No, just making assets and saying it's all what the players make of it doesn't count here. Right now we have a lot more features than we used to have and a lot less role players despite the fact that there are actually more role players and casual players trying out the game than your would suspect.

However, since the new RPers don't stay and the existing ones get bored easily, the community doesn't build up. I would vote to work on more community building exercises (such as events like the alchemist events in particular or Jilata's A Challenge of Minds) and more talk about RP over raw assets. If people understood better that this was an RP game not just a generic RPG clone, then you could more easily pick up the displaced RPers from from other sources.

You'd be surprised how many RPers in other games have been forced out of their games and really need somewhere to RP. RP is taking hits across the board; there is no reason while PS shouldn't be able to capitalize on that and make a safe haven for those that still don't want to give up on RP.

There may be a strange irony that as the graphics of the game develops that the type of player that gets to try it out is someone with a good 'gaming' machine. Those folks may not be the ones as interested in RP as the grind. They may then find that it is not built around the grind per se and leave. Just a thought of what style of gamer may be originally attracted at the moment and the ones that cannot get on the game due to the need of a higher end gaming machine.

Good point however never hardware has a much easier time running the game. I recently bought a cheap $500 desktop computer ( Intel i5 64 bit, 8gigs ram, Intel's cheap graphics chip ) and it runs just fine. This will likely change with future upgrades....

That's a good point and something I've been saying for a while, we really needs more events in game and if they are able to build up a storyboard across many events are even better. I tried to do that in the past despite the lack of time (I was able to play only 2 out of 3 connected events I had plan ahead  :'( ), but believe me working and developing doesn't help with that.
Having more GMs (or players) actively playing events would be great!
I also think rules/quests may help/support the RP promotion, I must say we're trying to do that in many ways (and ideas to even further the concept are welcome - even if, please, keep in mind some ideas are easier to implement than others and we're glad to improve current features as much as we'd hate to trash what's already in place instead of trying to improve it), however RP is a human skill to the core and everything we do can't but help to settle the right "environment".

@Rigwyn: your machine cpu and ram is surely enough for quite some times, however the  graphics chipset use to be much more important than the overall contribution of all CPU cores; so in the future I recommend to just upgrade the graphics card instead of buying a whole new computer.

My old computer was kick ass when I got it, and I shelled out top dollar.... but 1 gig of ram, a 1st generation core duo at 1.86ghz, and nvidia card with 256M cache was barely sufficient for the latest releases of PS. ( On the older version, I was able to run several clients at once )

It's the combination of sufficient hardware. A GeForce 6800 still works, but I would not recommend less than 8800/9600 today. And not less than 2 GB RAM, better 4. Any dual-core will do, probably, there is not much parallelization gain.
