Controversy

Insert long post about Planeshift's problems.

And that's why this is a controversy that needs to be addressed. If it isn't, the world will end. Who disagrees? Let's start a flame war.

That topic won't work anymore. All the people who are still sore about it are long gone. :P

;D All you have to do to start controversy is pick a different topic. But life has been tiring, how 'bout you? And you aren't going to go zap any borks. I know you still play PS. :P

Why is life tiring? I'm having fun in my classes! Political science, law, philosophy -- DELICIOUS! And to be fair, PS still has juice in it for roleplay. Naw I'm sayun? Also have you noticed how like 5 people use the forum now? The lurkers finally left. Except for 5 lurkers.

Life is tiring because I'm sick and I argue with people online even when my better judgement tells me I'm wasting time arguing with them. :P Are you studying PoliSci as your major? However, PS has roleplay sure, but tell me, do you guys still have enough good or neutral characters for all your baddie endeavors to play off? You guys need a paladin type order around there. I don't know if Adani counts as such a group.

And it's gotta be more like 10 lurkers as today's total online is 16 and I don't think the google bots hang out there. ;D

I am studying it yes. It's fantastic, so interesting. You studied programming or something right?

I think the Adani are inactive, and there really isn't any active Order, militia or such and such around that I can see. There are certainly players in guilds, but active, focused and with numbers above two or three? Don't think so. But we do. Why just today we were robbing and romping around, having a good time at the expense of order and peace.

Alright alright, 10 lurkers I can deal with. I guess you would classify. Phinehas is also one. Also Rirenil. He's a lurky one.

Nah, mine was earth and space. I figured the combination of classes you were taking could only be PoliSci or Law Enforcement. But, you hooligans need to be reigned in; I don't have a Wooden Spoon of DOOM(tm) big enough though nor the desire to get back in game. :P

Phinehas still lurks here? I was surprised to see a certain Phage apparently still lurks a bit too. ;) But I can't be considered a forum lurker, I post. I also can't be considered a game lurker as I haven't logged in ages.

Earth and space...?

My class = intellectual delight. Love every second of it. But I could never do law enforcement. Kull has sunk into my brain. Just kidding. He hasn't at all. *cough*

To be fair, us hooligans are mostly new players so we can't do -that- much damage. It's mostly good fun. Alright, it's evil. Patently evil.

He almost certainly does. I think you can be a forum lurker if you post, but I suppose that defies the definition. A little posting maybe.

Volki, my guild is IN DA GAME YO. BLOOD TRIA SYNDICATE REPRESENT!

Yeah, it's a much shorter way of saying interdisciplinary science and engineering. Mind you, I lean more towards science and away from engineering. No more math classes... >.<

Best to nip evil in the bud, catch it while it's new. :p

Here is irrefutable proof released only just a week ago that bunnies, can indeed fly. You all can no longer claim otherwise.

I am going to spin this a bit, in the hopes that it isn't too  :offtopic:  nor too much of a hijack.

Rigwyn posted a while back an interesting comment- why do we even have Guilds right now?  So there are reasons having to do with history, traditions, longer term relationships ig and ooc- sure

YET...
The idea of Guilds OOC is to include newer players, to allow those of various stances (I forget the D&D word for neutral, good, bad..etc) to align with each other and create newer, broader, deeper rps, and to share knowledge of mechanics and settings, how to's, histories, quest help, mob hunting help, etc. And of course to develop contacts ig and IC that you can play your character with...

With a low player count, the midbies and oldbies almost all at least know each other's names, and vaguely about each other.  Roled for example doesn't know all the european players BUT knows others in their guilds.  So RR suggests to newbies often that they meet with so-and-so to see if they would fit into an existing guild.  RR met a dwarf miner for examples, and although I didn't know personally the particular Hammer who was ig at the moment, I sent an IC groffel to him telling him of the new person and suggesting they look for each other.  OOCly I helped the newer player a bit, then also suggested to him to meet this particular Hammer, and I think they did ICly.  So that's one use of existing guilds...

YET as newer player or those of us leftover with non-existant guilds enter and play, well, we gotta play with someone.  So I am one of those in favor of the association approach- With the newer Master Mage questlines, a whole bunch of players met each other at least to loan wands back and forth, and to talk strategies for quests.  Good rps resulting in many cases.  A while back RR organized with others the Sons of Xiosia (SoX heheheheh) and held services in the Garden, and met a bunch of characters who were IG Xiosian's who didn't have much Guild contact.

My first conclusions are:
:D New Guilds are good, new guild welcome newer people who are IG now without burdens of history to conform to
:D Cross guild organizing is good, you meet allies, set up alliances and rps among allies- note the intertwining plots going on right now on various levels
:D Association/ interest alignments are good, you meet people to help you out, people you can send your "happy little yulbar" to in times of need, enhancing rps
:D OOC talking with opposite alignments are good for the sake of building rps. I used to be a purest- only playing RR in character in game, and never participating in gossip or alliance chats.  Now I do that all the time. First, it's fun for me and I hope for others, goofy stuff happens, people crack jokes, you get to know other players.  It's also a positive thing I think, to say hello to and encourage newer folks, and I hope to increase the fun of the game for all or most of us, while we're out leveling, which we all do from time to time, even those strict rpers.

Thoughts? Responses? Ideas?

Dissolve the older guilds with less than five active members. Particularly the ones with guildhouses. The houses can be sold and those players can join or create new guilds. Maybe the Octarchy can instate a rule for inactive guilds: sell your house by this date, or it will be taken by force and auctioned off. Considering that guildhouses have a physical location in this game, it's not too harsh. It would provide motivation for guilds to expand and stay active.

My guild is quite active, and from what I can see only a few guilds have activity on our level or higher (Way of the Hammer, Wayward Kingdom, Klyros Junction/House Cheshire). I feel those guilds with one or two active people should dissolve and move on to another.

My syndicate would gladly take a guildhouse, or even a tavern preferably  ;D. We need a shady hangout.
