If you don't understand why this is such a big deal, then try running an event. If you have done that or have a had similar experience, then it shouldn't be too hard to understand.
Some of us put a lot of time and thought into our events. To have all that work trashed and to have the event fall apart is rather frustrating.
Deliberately disruptive and innocently inexperienced players can be difficult to work with, but its not that difficult for an experienced player. There are ways to cut out the disruptive player, and ways to support the newbie player. In this case, getting around a gm who cannot separate ic from ooc (or who perhaps simply made a mistake) is a bit more challenging.
Worst of all, there are very few players who take the initative to entertain us with their events and story lines. If you discourage the few who take this initative, then you end up with nothing happening in the game. When that happens, everyone is affected.
