I also found leveling in Dungeon Siege enjoyable.
The way that, if you focused on raising your nature magic level to 50 before even attempting to level anything else, your other stats (strength/dex I mean, not skills) would take HOURS to increase just one level, meaning you\'re now a mage and there\'s nothing you can do about it

.
That\'s why you had to think very carefully about what your char is doing at all times, while the simplicity of having just 4 skills and 3 stats leveled the fun out nicely.
However, PS is obviously going to be very different. You\'ll have tonnes of classes, complete character creation freedom, FAR more than a few stats and skills to work on... and the best thing is, you don\'t even have to go on a murder spree just to gain XP.
It all sounds very complex and I think the developers have a difficult journey ahead of them to ensure that the fun stays there aswell. Don\'t get me wrong, I love leveling and tradeskilling, but there has to be that delicate balance that keeps it from becoming repetetive or predictable (just like Dungeon Siege in the end).
I have every faith in them.
