Children
« on: September 18, 2003, 03:42:41 am »
I hadnt seen this idea before but I wasn\'t looking very hard. I think it\'d be great if someone implemented Children in the character creation. You can play a woman or a man. But no child,  this may make some role play odd to the eye.. when a child is playing the same avatar as their mother or what not.. Just an idea.

Not sure what you are saying, you mean have actual child aged characters in the game?  That doesn\'t really make sense.  And I don\'t know why a child would use the same character as a parent, since we will have multiple chars avaliable to an account.

I think he was trying to say that it doesnt make sense for someone that wants to roleplay a child to have to play with the same model as someone else... making the child look the same as the mother.  But he might have meant something else that\'s just the way I interpretted his sort of backwards statement (remember this is an international community be happy you arnt being forced to speak Italian).

This was mentioned somewhere else a few days ago, and I agree.

Only if you could \"upgrade\" to the adult model.  It would be an interesting RP aid.

Imagine, Mr. X marries Ms. Y in-game.  Mr. X and Ms. Y then roleplay having a child... Talk about in-game marriages being over zealous...

I actually had an idea for a MUD I used to play on this topic.  Using some sort of /reproduce command, a couple could spawn a NPC child, which one of them could eventually take control of.  There\'d also be some strategy in it, as the child\'s stats would be based on the cross of the parent\'s.  Of course, this only works if you implemented aging and death from old age, possibly the two worst concepts in a RPG.

I still don\'t know what the original poster even meant by this idea... and unless there are already going to be child NPCs, the extra art for this would be a waste of time when it could be spent making more creatures and stuff.  Aside from that I still don\'t really have much an idea just what the hell anyone is talking about.  Having child NPC\'s, child PC\'s, aging systems... meh none of that makes any sense, this isn\'t the freakin\' Sims or nothing.

lol, no it doesn\'t. I don\'t see any point in having child NPC\'s except to make the game better. and aging systems aren\'t good, as most people would like to not age and die in the game. But that\'s just me.  :D

I don\'t see how adding some roleplaying in mmoRPG can be a waste of time...

I agree Draklar.  It seems our community is split down the middle on this one, but I love the idea of different aged character models and an aging system.

Most of the children running around would be newbs ;)
Doesn\'t anyone remember the good old days when you started an RPG as 16 year old kid?

Art is never a waste of time.  I welcome all the new models.

I\'m not against an aging system as long as you\'re not forced into an age.  If I want to roleplay as a 16 year old, then let me be one... If I want to roleplay as an adult, don\'t make me use a 16 year old model.  Also, the aging system shouldn\'t be automatically advanced based on a timer; it should be advanced by a slider (that is, you decide when and by how much to age).
Of course, will we ever see aging? I doubt it, it seems like a lot of work for a that kind of feature (I\'d hate to say worthless, but not significant to gameplay).
