« on: October 05, 2003, 10:15:08 am »
Does anyone here know any sites that have posted some new info on the game?
I keep cheking the official site and it still hasn\'t been updated with anything good.

What is it you want? Some info about the game?
Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

If there is something new to report it will be on the news page of the planeshift website.
If it hasn\'t been updated for awhile simply means that there is nothing new to report yet.

It\'s doubtful that you will get any informations from any site other than the stuff on the PS one, as them debeloper people are not keen to tell us not-so-well-informed people what\'s going on behind the sceen. :P

Yeah I know we should really get better at this. I remember when I didn\'t have access to all secret development stuff I too really wanted the website to post some news (intresting ones).

I think fans should be informed what\'s going on in the PS development but still be suprised when playing the updates.

But all ppl can still be happy to know that there is really big progress even if the website doesn\'t show it, from seeing on the website ppl might think PS is going dead but that is really not the case development is going lightning-fast.  :D

Can fans go in the dev channel and hear the discuss to know the advances (of course not asking to devs or you will no more be able to work) or you prefer being left alone?

Do you mean that you don\'t want that fans sees the progress? or there is another way to be informed like a dev mailing list with 50~100 mails/day or RT system available for public?

There are a few reasons for this I think:
1) We don\'t want to give too much away for players, If you already know what the quests are, what all the new models look like, what the battle music sounds like then it will ruin it.

2) Often we will discuss things that will have absolutely no meaning for 99% of the people.  Talking about proximity lists and parsing XML is not really that interesting for people.

3) We don\'t want to make promises that we cannot keep.  Much of what we do is not written in stone so things are flexable.   So things you may see in IRC can change from day to day.  So it would look bad on us if somebody saw us discussing something in IRC and then posted in online and the next day we change it.

That being said, we do discuss things in #planeshift. And it is not always like Niber has suggested.  If you have a particular question that you want to discuss, by all means join in and we can talk about it.

I really find it weird to keep your development so much behind closed doors wen it\'s an open source project. People might have good suggestions on what you are programming/developing atm. Offcourse only talking about the source here and not the world, sounds obvious to keep your quest and stuff secrets, it would be one big spoiler otherwise.

Sure it is open-source, but if you\'re not helping to develop the game, there is no need for you to know what is being developed. There is this \"secret\" meeting place, where the devs discuss \"secret\" stuff, but if you\'re not invited, you\'ll get booted rather quickly. If a discussion is going on, that is. :)

Although the 2) and 3) is not a problem for me beacuse i just want to know the devel progress, I simply forgot the quest issues. It is indeed a thing that i don\'t want to know...
