nice idea for the blood thing. But You would need a VERY resistent sword, since they do get damaged as far as I know. Reparing it often would be another option, perhaps cheaper. But you could always have some peanut sword lol (b@stard!!!)

I love the idea of having a \"Dragon slayer\" or \"Doom of Dragon\" or \"Extinction of Auran\"!!!! (Especially the last one) These weapons will kill along side my buddie Way\'s double crossbow!

Yeah since there will be durability, you\'ll have to spend a fair bit of money repairing your sword.  But it\'s worth having a completely unique weapon, isn\'t it?

this is slightly off topic but I think blacksmiths might play an important role in my job! (i may be an animal trainer!) they would probaly make saddles (for flying animals and horse like creatures) horse shoes and whips and stuff like that! I salute you blacksmiths! I would be one of you if i didnt like the though of being able to whip a level 3 squirell into shape into a level 456 super squirell!  :P

I believe that the way around the whole sword naming, could be something like.

\"Short Sword - Star Scope\"

\"Heavy Spear- Wrong Judgement\"

\"Warhammer- Glyph Breaker\"

This way when I ask for a sword in a shop I see a list of swords like:

Short Sword- \"Star Scope\"
Short Sword- \"Bringer\"
Short Sword- \"Monkey Spanker\"
Long Sword- \"Heavens Bolt\"
Falchion- \"Swift Bearer\"

This way, as you can see, the \'Star Scope\' and the \"Monkey Spanker\" are the same sword.

A good tool would be to be able to name a sword you just bought with a command like: /rename or a dialoge box. Which would be great if you were a blacksmith and wanted to sell swords and make them attractive. So maybe some newbs could be scammed, but that can be solved:

The Blacksmith, when editing his shop, has a LIST showing all the items in his inventory, something like:

Short Sword(s)  Qty: 10    Price: 200

Heavy Short Sword(s)   Qty:4    Price 300

Long Sword(s)   Qty: 2     Price: 480

This way, the Blacksmith is forced to price all the swords that are the same the same price. So the Buyer would see this:

Short Sword- \"Star Scope\"--200t

Short Sword- \"Bringer\"--200t

Short Sword- \"Monkey Spanker\"--200t

Long Sword- \"Heavens Bolt\"--480t

Falchion- \"Swift Bearer\"--680t

I think this is the best way to avoid Scams, and I hope someone reads this.

I digress, the renaming should definetly be done in a dialoge box.

*Edit: I also may point out that Short Swords and Heavy Short Swords are two different swords, so would be an \"Fire Enchanted Short Sword\" so they can be priced differently. Please tell me what you think.

Thanks whemyfield, I hope more people read this then  :D

I just think that level of customization is simple and scam-proof to the point of ignorant newbs, and great liars.

I agree that there should be a naming-tag implemented.  But I love the idea of having to actually work for that name.  But you can also implement the two.  The blacksmith may name a sword \'Helmsbreath\', but I could slay a couple hundred squirrels with it, so it would become \"Helmsbreth the Squirrelinator sword\".  This would prevent a lot of retarded names, as who wants to spend all that time to earn a tag with a sword called \"IWillOwnU\"  (as I\'m sure there will be several thousand like this)!  Mind you, not many people would actually buy swords with retarded names! (at least I hope).  The blacksmiths will not make much money if they call the swords stupid names, and it should only be blacksmiths that name a sword upon creation.  It would be called that henceforth, and the user could go out and earn a tag for it at a later date which would blah blah blah....
anyhow, im done for now :p

I used to play a text-mmorpg \"Materia Magica\" and they had a great system for renaming items...any and all items could be renamed...for a price....as i figured it...if an item was renamed it somehow took up more storage space or whatever then a normal item of the same type..usually because the new name was always long and descriptive such as

Deathlover\'s Elvish Longsword of Grevious Bloodletting

or some such nonsense. anyway Materia Magica was free and in being such survived on donations.... and for a nominal donation,.... say $5,.... players would receive a bag of 20 rename coins in-game which could then be taken to a special place in game, that was difficult to get to. Each coin could rename one item...any item....but were usually saved for VERY rare & unique items.

These coins could also be found in-game but were extremely difficult to come by....they could only be puchased in PK areas from the \"questmaster\" with quest points that were earned by completing numerous quests for other questmasters......(I\'m not advocating the whole questmaster concept cuz i hated that..... Quests should be more unique and far reaching)

These coins also started a whole new trade. they were auctioned for enormous amounts of in-game cash or traded for other VERY RARE items. A lot of people didn\'t like the fact that players could basically buy in-game $$$ for RL dollars buy just buying rename coins and selling them...it made things slightly unfair for those of us who are less financially fortunate, but i say its fine...that way those that have money can donate and those of us who really can\'t afford it can still enjoy an awesome game for free!

This would help a lot in game costs and showing our support to the devs.

\"Buttlicker 3000 superultraplus\"
\"Hand of George bush\"
\"Your momma\"
\"Wazzaaaa!\"
\"If u wanna **** tn msg *name*\"

Horror! 8o

Zakynthos\'s and harwen\'s ideas are great. To solve the fenomatic2000\'s problem, only smiths could rename the swords. Smiths should somehow be made responsible for the naming... and all would be solved.

You can also use \"Vagrant Story\"-like weapon system. When U use a weapon, it\'s caracteristics change.
For instance : When U use it againt a lot of undead, it comes whith \"light\" bonuses and deals more damage to undead with time ...

Also this can be used with auto-naming, inspired from custom weapon naming in Diablo2 when U put gems on \'em ...
For instance : When you have a sword used alot against trolls, then it\'s auto-renamed as TrollKiller sword.

Names could be cumulative, with one race descr, one magic way descr, and so on ...
For instance : You could own the \"CrystalWay TrollKiller LongSword of Will\" if it has a benefit effect with Crystal-Wayed magic, strong againt trolls and gives bonuses to will ... But when Ur weapon\'s strong against dragons but even stronger against trolls, it only tells about trolls.

Okay people hear me out.   But your idea of giving a sword a name seeems very silly.   Like what is a name anyways?  It\'s something you name it.   Like you don\'t just look at a weapon and all of a sudden know that\'s it\'s name!!   I think this should be left to Roleplaying.  (don\'t make a comparision with this and character names since we wouldn\'t need bubles floating over character heads if they were cutomisable enough)

A much better idea would be to have an engrave option.   You go to a jewler or highly trained black smith and have a name engraved on your sword or shield or whatever.  That would definaley add much more roleplay value then running into someone and seeing Conana hits zombie with Dargog the mighty sword.   Like maybe jus say that he hits it and then if you look at the sword you\'ll see a discription with maybe an engraving.   Just an idea.

It would also be nice to be able to choose to omit your name from a weapon you craft.  I do some crafting of various things in real life and alot of time it is much better to not write your name on it.  Gives the item a more \"pure\" look and gives the recieptient more of a feeling that it truley belongs to them if your names not on it.
