I do not play online games that cost monthly payments.  But I hate hearing people bash those games just as much.  Making online games is their job.  Would you work for free?  No.  Neither will they.

Yeah have you played Jedi Acedemy? It\'s an awesome game. The Lighsaber battles are unbeatable. The only complaints I have are that they really let their level design slip since the first game. However not to say the level design is bad, they just did an amazing job in the first game. The last boss is also an absolute joke, she\'s not harder then any other the other jedi\'s. But given that it\'s an amazing game, I also hear that Knight of the old repulbic is a massive hit.

Yes, I have played both Jedi knight 1, 2 and jedi academy. Yes, I have to say that Jedi-knight 2 gave me a pleasant surprise. It was something new, and the saber-fights were pretty satisfying.
The story was old-style Star-wars, which was great. A lot of fun things to do. Good!

I thought that perhaps lucasarts had risen once again to release some great titles.
I was wrong.

Jedi academy is a joke. Same old game-engine (a modified Q3 engine). They added 2 new light-sabers and styles, 0 new forces, 1 new mp-game style and a very poor editor to create your own character.
Some new monsters, some new races. Same damn soundtrack (They could surprise us with something new for once)
It was more like a mod than a real game. Worthless! X(

Yes, lucasart did make great titles in the past, but now they\'re just exploiting their trademark. They know folk will buy it because it\'s star-wars.

SWG isn\'t even done yet, but they released it anyway. Guess why?
Waste your money on something else.

10 words...Knights of the old republic owns all starwars games. its the only one (that i know of) that has a great rpg/d&d style feel to it.

SWG may not be great, haven\'t played it, but to say something like this V is just rediculous.

Obviously nothing good can come out of your keyboard, so trash it and revert to the Amish days. :P Just pullin\' your leg, but that\'s the general feeling.

Lucasarts still makes good games. I admit that they have actually begun to make bad ones too, but they always have at least one promising title in the works.

Rebel Strike, Gladius, KOTOR, Monkey Island series :D

Come on, they\'re not all bad.

As for comparing PS to it...well, I don\'t really think you can. There is the point of completion, mentioned at least a hundred times, There is the fact that they are different genre\'s, if you will, SWG is Sci-fi, PS is Fantasy, and there\'s the fact that SWG devs were paid to make it, which doesn\'t necessarily say anything about quality, but it does bring up the issue of a deadline.

You\'re welcome for that run-on sentence. :]

Now that is true. KOTOR is, in my opinion, the best RPG created in a long time, a very long time.

lucas arts at one time made the best games like day of the tentcul, sam and max, and monky island. but soon after that they became a real craphole of game makers.

It\'s not a fair comparison.

On one side, you have wookies dancing ballet! I can imagine myself doing that if I had more free time to play these games.

On the other hand, planeshift still has to work out its main gameplay features such as decent combat mechanics, cool skills, communication interfaces, and much more.

Well, lucasarts are planning sequels to the most popular games in their history, like Sam & Max, DOT and Full throttle.
Do they actually make an attempt to create good games once again, or do they just wanna milk out the last money from a bunch of retrogames? We\'ll find out soon enough...

And about PS vs. SWG...
It\'s true its not a fair comparision. PS is a free project and is not so very popular yet since its still in beta.
SWG has a paid team that creates exactly what their fans wants, because they\'re payed for it.
The PS-team works for free, and doesn\'t have the same resources as the billion-dollar Lucasarts company.
On the other hand I think that the PS team cares more about their game than Lucasarts ever will.

Sorry to burst your guys\' bubble, but Lucas Arts is a Publisher, not a developer for many of the games you\'ve mentioned.

KotoR was made my Bio Ware, makers of Baldur\'s Gate 2 and Neverwinter Knights, and you wonder why it\'s good? :P

Jedi Academy was made by Raven.

And the list goes on.

Just because there\'s the \"Lucas Arts\" logo on the box doesn\'t mean they had much of a hand in the game itself. The moral of the story is, some companies can make good games, some can\'t.

And pretending that Plane Shift is better than SWG, just because you have a distaste of the latter, is foolish. While it may not be the greatest game ever made, or worth the monthly payments, it has had years of development time by paid professionals. Not to spite the devs of this game, but I hardly doubt they could match that.

Oh yes, one more thing. Despite your feelings on SWG, the City system they are implementing is quite revolutionary, and wiil have to be considered by next gen MMORPGs from now on.

Darkcow, I agree.

Disliking a game because of disliking its origins or the mercenary money grubbing attitudes of the companies involved is to disrespect the achievements of the developers, coders, artists and musicians who actually put the thing together.

This is true even of hating m$.
