If you like Queens of the Stone age, you should obviously check out Kyuss.  I freaking love that band.

I've been meaning to check them out for a while now, actually, just... so... tired... It's hard work staying up 24/7 to make your Dwarf kick butt. 

Another band I've been meaning to check out??  Radiohead (thanks for the reminder, Parallo  ).  I mean come on, two of their albums are right on my computer on iTunes, and STILL I'm too lazy to go and listen to them.  I guess I take pride in being sort of a sloth...  That live performance was just mediocre, though.

Honestly, the best live performance I've ever seen footage from was (and you're all gonna hate me for saying this) by Audioslave.  This video right here:

They just play it so perfectly, about the same quality as in the original recording, which is quite rare in a live performance.  I mean, even if you hate the music, you've got to admit that the performance was pretty near-perfect.

Ehhh.  Radiohead is overrated and they bug the heck out of me.  I mean, they're a good band, but they are relatively middle of the road and they're one of those bands that suburban kids listen to if they want to feel like they listen to indie.  They have some good tunes though.  I enjoy the album ok computer.  I'm just never going to grow out of jawbreaker I guess.



Edit @Xus:  I'll admit that I haven't heard much Audioslave.  I just haven't been turned on to them.  I'm listening to that link right now though.  Sounds fairly typical of their radio hits.  Definately check out soundgarden... the thing is that there's hundreds of bands from around 92-97 which have this kind of sound to check out.  The problem is finding the stuff they put out, and the second problem is that most of them sucked.

We're all here talkin' bout music, and there you go rantin' about theatrics or some such nonsense...

At any rate, Chris' voice is the real highpoint of the thing.  Everyone says that he was so much better in Soundgarden and all, but honestly I think it went the other way, like his voice actually got better as he aged, strained and rough as it may be.  Sort of aged, like a good wine.

And that man has the right to do whatever he wants with that there guit-fiddle, so you just leave him be.

Oh yeah, and after listening to some more QUOTSA I decided they rock. It's borderlined, but I like them. So, there's still not a band to come out of the California rock scene that I don't like

Radiohead is better than that....its one of my favorites...and i aint no indie-wannabe-cool surburban kid.

i think a lot of people listen to them to be "cool" at least when the indie fad hangs around

Well Unfun is a really punk album.  I like it, but not as much as their later stuff, especially Bivouac and 24 hour revenge therapy.  Bivouac is a great album but 24 hour revenge therapy is genius in my opinion.  They're playing punk music but with all these extended harmonies and long instrumental sections and it's alll very musical.  It's a combination of elements that I haven't been able to find in any other band.  I used to be in love with the album Dear You but I grew out of it.  It's the first CD I ever had (I bought it when I was 12 from a big stack of them.  After they went out of print they were selling for $30 on ebay, I bought mine for $5).

If you like Jawbreaker, you should definately check out Husker Du.  The 90's is infested with jawbreaker influenced melodic punk and pop rock bands though, including the alkaline trio, rufio, midtown, mineral, and many others.  I'm surprised sometimes by who lists jawbreaker among their top influences - even Hanson talked about them in interviews.  Blake joined a few other bands after Jawbreaker broke up including one called Jets to Brazil, but I don't like them as much.  The music is more pop oriented and the lyrics don't always make sense.

Yup, I misread your post.  I'm in the same boat you are - I didn't start listening to them until around the time they broke up.

Dave Grohl? Isn't he dreamy...? He's my favourite drummer. One day I'll be just like him. Except sans goatee. Blonde goatees look wrong...

(Also, Dave Grohl isn't in QUOTSA any more, which is why it's started to suck)
