I never thought I'd say this, but it's not always about the drums... Jack has some good tunes, especially on Elephant... ('Blue Orchid' is probably the only other good song that's not on that album though...)

Aye maybe some of his songs could be passabe but so many sound idenical and her only being able to play a 4-beat doesn't help.

I'm not familiar with most of those groups myself - I've a very large folder of various artists that I've just begun to look through. Either way, a horrible band can sometimes come up with a wonderful song :]

I think that's almost the rule, or at least it seems that way... I've heard a lot of bad albums by a lot of bad bands, and I have trouble parting with the albums because there's usually one song which is tolerable or even good.  It seems that most writers have a moment of brilliance.  Sometimes it's their career, sometimes it's their first album, and sometimes it's just one song.

I think in a lot of cases it is because that one song got most of the attention from the studio's producer who tried to come up with something marketable from these yabos which that idiot A&R guy signed because he wanted  to sleep with the lead singers sister or whatever other reason unrelated to talent he signed them. There is a whole lot that can be done with the raw tracks once the musician have left the building.

We're talking about song writing, not production values.

There is a whole lot that can be done with the raw tracks once the musician have left the building.

Right and the studio technicians never ever work with the artists to tweak the songs during the recording process, no song has ever been sent back to the songwriter for changes because the studio didn't like it. No producer ever brought in session musicians to salvage an otherwise unmarketable recording. If that is what you are suggesting I would disagree, if it isn't I do not understand what you are saying. The studios get final say about what goes on a pressing at least for a few releases until a band gets established. I suppose, perhaps, you were thinking more about indy bands to which most of the previous might not apply. To that I say: even a monkey can get a hole in one if he hits enough balls. { : (')

I never thought I'd say this, but it's not always about the drums... Jack has some good tunes, especially on Elephant... ('Blue Orchid' is probably the only other good song that's not on that album though...)

Actually they do have some other good tunes out there, they're just hard to find.  But my friend burned me a copy of a compilation CD with all his favourite Stripes' songs and seriously, I don't know where half of 'em came from, but they're pretty darn good. 

But yei, then half their crap is just unbearable... But the thing to remember with them is that they're uncouth and unpolished on purpose, sort of hailing back to old rough recordings of Skip James sitting in a dark studio in front of a vinyl recorder, pounding out a dozen blues tunes on an acoustic guitar in a single night.

Yeah.... no.  They're better than a lot of other mainstream stuff, but that doesn't make them good.l

I was first introduced to them when their demos started going around to different radio stations and a friend I have was impressed with them so he gave me a copy of their demo.  But I've never really fallen for them.

Man, that guy's voice can drive me up the wall (which realli shouldn't be true; if I can take Jack White, then arguably I can take anyone).

Regardless, I do appreciate the type of music Wolfmother makes.  It is very remniscient of classic 60s rock, with a whole lot of obvious influence from Hendrix and other various classic rock artists, so really that almost justifies the guy's voice, and it's really desperately needed by a society so easily won over by brainless Hip Hop/Rap tracks that require about as much musical creativity as flatulating.  Plus, Mind's Eye is a helluva song.

@Zanzibar It has a lot to do with it as the song that you eventually hear may bear only passing resemblance to the song that was written. It isn't really worth arguing about and since you do not care for my opinions I will let it go at that.
