Yeah, but why not just listen to 60's rock?

Because Its not the 60's anymore and songs get old.

So don't listen to radio hits.  Listen to albums.  Sheesh.

@Zanzibar Is a song that lasts 2:39 on the studio album truly the same song that is half of a song that is 13:37 on the live album?

I don't recall anyone in this thread talking about radio edits.

So who is talking about radio edits? I was talking about extended jam sessions, if anything, as would have been obvious if you looked at the link.

BTW was that

So you're talking about two different versions of the same song?  I still don't see how it connects to the discussion.

I think the discussion evolved as other people got involved, Anyways this:
I think that's almost the rule, or at least it seems that way... I've heard a lot of bad albums by a lot of bad bands, and I have trouble parting with the albums because there's usually one song which is tolerable or even good.  It seems that most writers have a moment of brilliance.  Sometimes it's their career, sometimes it's their first album, and sometimes it's just one song.
makes it appear that you were not specifically talking about songwriting because you referred to the finished album which I took advantage of to talk about production considerations.

Hey Babe it's Lou Reed live!
Perfect day You HAVE to check this out! It is classic, I don't know who half the artists are. Who can you identify? I saw Bowie, Bono, Tom Jones and Lou Reed of course, Billy Joel I think ....

I was talking about writers, but not songwriting?  Give me a break.

You were talking about albums you wouldn't throw away because of one song. Did you watch that second clip? It made me think of you....

Here is something from Brian Eno and David Byrne you can take it as an admission of guilt if you like.

BTW anybody like Shawn Phillips' 8 octave voice? Only uses some of it here....

At least I am trying to stay on topic while I respond to your irrelevancies. This is a thread for posting clips from our favorite artists isn't it?

Here is another song from Shawn Phillips. Hadn't heard either this track or the previous one before.

Edited spelling mistake

I always had a soft Spot for Electric Light Orchestra before success went to excess

Guess all I have to add to that is Tangerine dream and Kraftwerk although, those are also some of my more liked bands mentioned above.

Ha! Glad to hear that Kraftwerk are still mentioned  from time to time. Maybe non-european people hardly know them  :whistling: .
My favourite ? Deep Purple above all i think, but i do like Satyricon, Borknagar, Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone, Amorphis and so on. And Frank Zappa and Weather Report. Well i am not schizophrenic  X-/ . Really. It's simply impossible to focus on a single  genre.

Are you suggesting that talking about one's favourite music in a thread called "favorite music" is off topic?

I am suggesting that obsessing about some distinction only you care about is not discussing your favorite music and that you might be better served by moving on. I am quite happy to keep indulging you for now as long as it gives me an excuse to post more links.

Where the heck did that Tangerine Dream link come from Geemi? Was it really TD? It was Jon Anderson from Yes singing. They did do movie scores. Sourcerer was a great movie and their soundtrack chillingly appropriate.

I thought they only had one album with singing, Cyclone. I haven't kept up though. Here is an excerpt from Bent Cold Sidewalk from that album, oddly enough on top of Lord of the Rings video. Here is an excerpt from Madrigal Meridian also from Cyclone also with seemingly extraneous video.

I'm not obsessing about anything.  You and I disagreed on something.  You then pretended that you were talking about something else - a troll tactic you often use - and I called you on it.  Nothing more.  If you wish to drop the discussion, that's fine, but don't go rewritting history on me.

Are you stalking me?  Should I feel flattered?

We're talking about our favourite artists, we're talking about music, we're talking about song writing.  It's all on topic.

Really you should never have posted your playbook if you wanted people to take you seriously. Now you seem more like a Moonlight Shadow or a Moon Shadow or something. I might need to call up Wells Fargo or The Mexican .

You can't say that this isn't great.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(
