some one played baldurs gate? There was a living sword. It only could talk, but i loved it. It always said some stupid things and never shut up... it was a great fun.

Of course this idea could be evolved. You would need a soul stone to make a waepon that lives. This soulstones could be ganed from a death monster, a powerfull mage or whatever.

Ok, two words.(ok, 4 if you count... )

living waepons
Soul stones

whats about a sword whit the soul of a rat.. or with the soul of a vampire.

I love the idea, but i dont know wich way is the best.
-living waepons that just talk and dont do realy cool stuff
-living waepons that have their own stats and can even do some actions(spells..)
-waepons with a soul. This soul stones are realy rare and more or less powerfull, depends on the monster. The waepon would just gane some stats and would have spezial atributes (vampire soul would steal live)

ok, first off, asraniel, living weapons, soul stones, is 4 words unless soul stones is a seperated conjunction then its three lol:]

now, about the idea,  i think it is a pretty cool suggestion, and the way i picture it working, is that you get a weapon at the begining, and you can like spend money and all kinds of other stuff to modify your weapon and make it better. and as you use your weapon more, you get better at that particular weapon, so it gets stronger, instead of like just your attack power getting better. that way, changing weapons is a big deal, so that people wont just work their way up the weapon chart till they get to the uber weapon, so that every weapon can eventualy end up an uber weapon if you stay loyal to it and are smart in how you upgrade it and stuff.

One thing that i love is to customize a waepon.. nothing complicated, but give him a name, write some runes on it, whatever, i love that.
Ok, its just a waepon, but so you could have something like a relationship with you waepon. I dont know if you what i mean.

You want to give your weapon a name? Wait... \'Him\'?!

And I do hope that you\'re talking about a strictly aplatonic relationship!

Of course. But when you play a long time a game and you always have the same waepon, then have have some kind of relationship to it. I mean, its your \"long sword +3\" whatever. Thats ok for normal waepons that you dont have a long time, but when you play a long time with a blade wich is special its not only a \"number\" for you, but you know your waepon. Now, when you can modify your waepon it becomes \"your\" waepon, and not only a number. Like that it becomes unique, im not talking about some cool special effect, but something like a name that changes nothing to the waepon. You could also just name a sword: \"Asraniel\'s long sword +3\" but of course it would be cooler to name it \"glamoth coth\" wich means ork mob enemy(more or less, that was a quik and dirthy sindarin translation)

Look at the warriors in the middleage, they went to bed with there waepon sometimes, theyr waepon was more important than anything else, sometimes it was theyr only friend. You see what i mean. And to give the waepon a name makes even more sense when it lives or has a sould (wich doesent mean the same.. it can, but it dont have to)

If they ever went to bed with their weapons, it was for defence. Like in all those movies when people sleep with their gun. It\'s not like they treat their gun as a friend, it\'s so when someone comes they can have their weapon ready.

I can\'t see a point in giving weapons names.

I think this thread is relevant to the discussion.

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=8374&boardid=11&styleid=3&sid=6a17eb50a6f0cfcc2c95ca6c849a0eab

The finer points of weapons in the game are touched upon.

Also relevent is this thread:

Symbiotic Creatures

The Soul Reaver was a symbiotic sword... I cannot imagine if such things existed.

Awaiting Invite from the Ordo Illuminatis.

Warriors give names to their weapons sometimes. They\'re bound to their piece of steel. \'tis roleplay in this case...
(gonna name my sword \'Ohtadun\' :P)

Its easy.
In the real world its a difference for you if you fight with YOUR sword or the one of someone other. Even if they are the same.

Now, in a game a long sword is a longsword. You cant see any difference if you change it.
But in real world every waepon is unique. This should be represented in the game with a little detai, like a name for a waepon, or engraved runes on it or whatever.

Living Weaons!!! like tammed animals like wolfs and hounds, snakes things that would be better than a talking bow what you need is things that kill already (on thier own)  that you can tame depending on you lvl so you cant tame a dragon lvl40 when your lvl5 like a strength lvl or attck lvl base or even a taming lvl which brings your overall lvl up as well.

I was just making a Staff with a snakehead on it that moves like a cobra! I think it may spit acid of fire or ice or something? Or it just bites & poisons whatever you are attacking?

I assume English is a second language for Asraniel, but, sadly, he can spell better then someone who speaks English as their first.

Heh, I also like this idea! Even if it wouldn\'t give any bonus other than coolness, it would be great. Do you remember the \"serpent staff\" off, what was it, \"hexen\" or something? That one that had an eye that blinked occasionally. I loved it just because it did that.

The talking sword also was cool. These things are either made or they become this way, you can see this in the descriptions. So why could my average \"short sword -10\" not, by some freak accident that hapens to me (like it being thrust into my heart with my hand holding it while I\'m in a spot where a powerful demon was defeated and it\'s mana high-tide and summer crystal solstice and there is a necromancer being resurrected near this place and a mage smashes my brain with some powerful glyph...), become \"living\"? Now my soul could inhabit the sword from this time on, or part of it if i\'m resurrected or whatever. Same goes for NPCs.

I\'d like it if most \"living\" artifacts (not restricted to weapons) would be \"born\" by accident, not on purpose.

I agree that I wouldn\'t like the use of animals as weapons, however, because that\'s too scientific for a setting like this, or too much work to do magically for little effect, why not create a golem instead?
