Living weapons...
« on: November 24, 2003, 04:41:23 pm »
I don\'t know maybe somebody won\'t agree with me but I think living weapons would be great to have in PS. Do you remember the Soul Reaver? Its bloodlust and power...
I think giving oppotunity to do smth like it will be very useful and interesting too. I\'m not talking about some SUPER-DUPER Living things killer, no. I just wanna have a spear that would be more personallized with me... That\'s all...
(Devs don\'t you agree with that?..)

The problem is that for such items to be interesting, they must be very rare (even unique). Or include an evolutive AI. Both solutions don\'t look so good to me. The first because only uber-players will have these swords and the second because dev time will probably be more useful on other things (like familiars).

Or warrior swords can behave like mage familiars. Can be fun. 8)

WOW! Large smile at the thought of being able to possibly have an intellegent 2 handed sword. Maybe with spell casting abilities. One can dream can\'t they?

It\'d be cool but yea for sure it\'d be rare, even the weakest living weapon would have to be very rare or very expensive. But smithing would be a bit of a problem, well for first off we know that when the weapon is first forged, its not alive its just a shaped metal.

So \'smithing\' would require some sort of metal base maybe, and a bit of magic/animal training.

Then you end up with a sword that never shuts up and runs away when you don\'t use it frequently...um, pass.

or you could have an \"animal\" weapon, that was alive, but couldn\'t think.

Amphistaff

a funny looking staff that is actually a biological entity, can be trained to bend/stretch a bit during combat, based on where and how you hold it.   might even be able to form dull blade like edges with sufficient training.

Phlits

darts with wings that keep accelerating after you throw them.  a really wierd type of bug.

Amphistaff?  As in, Yuuzhan Vhong?  :P

Copyright infringement aside, intelligent weapons would probably be a royal pain to program.  But with this being open source, who knows.   For now I\'ll settle for normal weapons and normal things to use them on.

I remember in the books from Weis and Hickman, the death gate cycle their was some sort of enchanted dagger that could change into a creature, depending on wat danger the wielder was facing it picked a different form to protect his master as best as possible. I think the dagger had some kind of curse on it too.

in norse mythology there was a dagger/sword that lengthened with the danger the owner was facing, grew with the owner, and never would cut the owner, pretty useful, called D?lkur,  but D?lkur means a knife wich you use to cut things you know like make a ship out of wood, you would use a D?lk to do that.

you cant see it with your eyes, hold it with your hand, like the wind it covers all land, this thing called love.
It can lift you up never put you down, take your world and turn it all around.
Ever since time nothings ever been found
thats stronger than love

For those of you who have seen the movie \"The Shadow\" with Alec Baldwin you will more than likely remember the dagger in that film. It was basically alive. From memory it chose its master based on his discipline and focus. The dagger flew of its own accord (or perhaps through the use of mind power by the master, cant quite remember) through the air and into the enemy of the master. There is a scene where Alec Baldwin catches the dagger by the handle but it keeps pushing forward in attempt to stab him. It also has a head on the end of the handle with an angry looking face. As he struggles with the dagger the head bends forward, on a neck I suspect, and bites his hand.

It probebly will be a pain to program, but it doesn\'t sound right anyways. Creatures used as weapons? This is PlaneShift, not Half Life (and it\'s a good thing, because HL sucks).
