PlaneShift is still under development, and so is the 3d engine it uses.
The game lags pretty bad on almost every computer, but i would say you need at least a better video card, and maybe a better CPU, your RAM is good.
Before changing anything on your computer, i would first wait untill the next release of this game, Crystal Blue(CB), because that will use a newer version of the 3d engine(crystal space) wich is hopefully a lot less laggy.

little tip here: try writing a little slower, it makes it alot easier for the people to read your post, also...its planeshift, not planes-shift

Icefalcon, use capitals where there should be, it\'s hurting my eyes
English isn\'t everybodys first language, and a lot of people have a hard time spelling, even though I agree about the PS-part ;)
As long as it\'s readable, it\'s ok imo.
Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

My comp is only about one half foot by one and a half feet, and it works fine.
My laptop won\'t run it though, must be too small.

hehe when I read the topic title, I thought of a very similar answer... :D
Thank you for taking that away from me.. ;)

Seriously, @hukuluk: The main problem is definately your graphics card, RAM is defintively enough (if you don\'t run much else on your \"ordinateur\" at the same time. CPU could need an upgrade, but the effect of the CPU is not as big as the effect of a better graphics card. :)

no CPU isn\'t the problem, my CPU is PIII 750mHz and it works fine. I got 384 SDRAM and GeF4 MX420, it runs okay. I think the lag is the game, which obviously is being worked on. Even on some of the strongest computers out there it\'ll lag. Well at least FPS lag is better than internet lag. but a 32MB gFx card is getting a bit old. there are some 64MB ones for really cheap like try $50 cheap.

There\'s two major factors that aren\'t HW dependant and make a biiiig influence on how good PlaneShift runs. Most people forget about them, though :(

1) the OS
As far as I\'ve tested it the Linux binaries are faster then the Windows ones ...dunno about the MacOS X

2) binaries or source
Compiling PlanesShift (and its dependancies) from source gives you a biiiiiiiiiig speed-up burst. There\'s a compiling HOWTO somewhere, which I think Venegance or Acraig wrote (don\'t kill me if it\'s someone else). But if you\'re a win* user and haven\'t compiled before I\'d let my fingers off of that option.

I have pretty spartan HW for today\'s standards:
Athlon-tbird 900Mhz
512MB RAM
Geforce 2 MX (32MB)

But my PlaneShift runs like a charm ...I get very little lag compared to how the binaries (especially the win!) ran on the same PC.

Why? Becasue of the way I installed it:
Gentoo Linux
everything compiled from source

Don\'t switch an OS just to run a game. I love Linux and I don\'t intend to go back to win*, but I wouldn\'t encourage people to install a new OS just to play PS faster

Well if it helps....my computer is about 6 in. x 14 in. x 18 in.... the monitor(sp?...yeah my brain is fried right now) is about 14 in. x 16 in. x 2 in...

Dunno what the size of the comp has to do with playing it...
I could always not be a wise ass and just tell you my specs but I\'m not gonna.  Word of advise though if you ever get on PS stay clear of the walls...

Hook,

How do you reconcile your belief that everything is way faster if \"compiled from source\" with the fact that the binaries which are distributed were also \"compiled from source?\"

It\'s the same fricken thing, man...
