There\'s two major factors that aren\'t HW dependant and make a biiiig influence on how good PlaneShift runs. Most people forget about them, though

1) the OS
As far as I\'ve tested it the Linux binaries are faster then the Windows ones ...dunno about the MacOS X
2) binaries or source
Compiling PlanesShift (and its dependancies) from source gives you a biiiiiiiiiig speed-up burst. There\'s a compiling HOWTO somewhere, which I think Venegance or Acraig wrote (don\'t kill me if it\'s someone else). But if you\'re a win* user and haven\'t compiled before I\'d let my fingers off of that option.
I have pretty spartan HW for today\'s standards:
Athlon-tbird 900Mhz
512MB RAM
Geforce 2 MX (32MB)
But my PlaneShift runs like a charm ...I get very little lag compared to how the binaries (especially the win!) ran on the same PC.
Why? Becasue of the way I installed it:
Gentoo Linux
everything compiled from source
Don\'t switch an OS just to run a game. I love Linux and I don\'t intend to go back to win*, but I wouldn\'t encourage people to install a new OS just to play PS faster
