Mockery of our Guild
« Reply #90 on: December 26, 2004, 08:59:07 pm »
I\"m another member of the Sentinels of the Ragnarok guild.  Our guild has a history that predates the 3D version of planeshift (not planshift MUD pre 3D which started in 1996 I think).  Anyways - I was always a real time strategy player, and not one for RPG\'s.  At that time myself and several friends played Age of Empires relentlessly.  We formed the idea of starting a group named Sentinels of Ragnarok.  We had problems getting it organized, and the inability to play AOEII online hindered us.  Then I noticed a few posts in a Linux forum about Planeshift.  I thought it looked quite promising.  I told Valbrandr about the game and we, with one other friend, started working on creating a guild.  I think Valbrandr does a good job as a senior leader, and calling us noobies isn\'t an insult, its the truth.  We are simply new to the game.

The idea of a non-agression pack was simply to try to build some friendships not to create enemies in a *cough \"elitist\" guild, and any mockery is mockery on me as well as other members of our guild.  Valbrandr isn\'t the one mocking our members its those of you who choose to be negative and look for reasons to insult people.

I really can\'t stand people who constantly think they are better than other people.

What do you mean by \"special\" - like special ed?  If so I guess we are out of luck.   I\'m sorry we are not \"special\" enough.  I\'m sure its not everyone in the guild - so I\'m not talking about everyone here, just the @$$holes with bad attitudes who feel the need to degrade attempts at friendship in order to make themselves look cool.  You people make me sick.

One thing that drew me to planeshift was the good community.  I know that there are always exceptions, I guess I just expected more from  an \"elitist\" guild.

EDIT:  For some reason my post was duplicated...  So ignore this one - I just removed the text to cut down on space on the forum.

Actually, I think Xordan was making fun of them.  Though who knows with him.

And why try to make an alliance with an inactive guild?

EDIT in reply to below:  They\'re invite only, which is why people are saying \"elite\" when it really is not true.

Inactivity?
« Reply #93 on: December 26, 2004, 09:04:00 pm »
I was wondering about that as well.  How is a guild barely active, yet really special and elite??  Just curious - feel free to inform me here - I could be simply missing something.

Edit because of Kierns edit. :)
Invite only huh?  Thats it?  I understand now.  Thanks for the information Kiern.

If you were making fun of them as Kiern suggests then I apologize for singleing you out - if you take offense to this, just let me know and I\'ll remove the quote.

Well, at least you should now the difference between \"noob\" and \"newbie (newb)\". It\'s sad you call your members (people you call friends) noobs. Or simply you don\'t know the meaning of the word ...

Yes, Planeshift has one of the best games communities. But what I don\'t get it. What did you expect more from DE?
And what makes it \"elite\"? I guess the people that compose it. Many would want to be like them ...
Well, don\'t know. My tip? Leave DE alone, accept a rejection (that kinda you invented from nothing, I did not see Sangwa saying the word) and try to live your life in here. Otherwise, you\'ll have to deal with me :)

I still consider mockery when you spoke about us being \"elitist\". Your guild member hasn\'t been effective at showing me you\'re not mocking DE.
Those who made all the critiscism were not Dark Empire members and so you shouldn\'t pay much attention to their critics. I barely told you what happened, you were not informed enough about the Dark Alliance and so I posted a bit of information and what you might do to be able to join it.
Also, non aggression pacts are weak alliances. Should we ever ally, it would be to help each other.

Induane, do not take revenge upon the Dark Empire because you aren\'t able to fight back against what the others said against you. If anyone made fun of you it wasn\'t anyone of the Dark Empire.
I haven\'t mocked your guild, it would be easy for me to be arrogant and make fun of your guild. It just wouldn\'t be right, or wise for that matter.
No Dark Empire member has made fun of your guild. Not yet. So stop your foly and quit making fun of my guild.

You are insulting a guild that didn\'t do anything to deserve your insults. You take what has been said by people who are not of my guild as an offence and then attack my guild with insults that were devised by that same people.
Yes there are always exceptions Induane. \"Judge not lest ye be judged yourself.\"

Kiern, we\'re as inactive as any other active player. Either you\'re blind or you don\'t want to see.

Elitism:  When things are organized for the benefit of a few people with special interests or abilities.

We benefit those who we find have special abilities and might help the guild to achieve it\'s objective. This is elitism... it\'s not thinking that we\'re superior than anyone else, it\'s trying to be it by recruiting skilled people only.

Well, a very wise man called Charles Darwin once wrote a book \"The Origin of the Species\" in which he explained the main aspects of the Evolution.

One Chapter of his book was called \"Survival of the fittest\", Maybe you should have a look at it.

I want to be a flame, to crumble to ash, but never ever burnt.

I want to rise higher, rise up to the heavens, but sink, just sink down deeper and deeper into nothing,

I want to be an angel, a chosen, a devil, but I am just a creature that ever wants what it wont get.

Thank you Sangwa for your level headed assessment of what transpired.  It was not a fight with the DE it was an arguement  with the other forum members.  There is no anger here about being rejected, we were just wondering why you did not give us a chance.  I know it is hard to trust some guilds in this game and most likely even harder to trust a new guild that may not be active or may dissipate.  The biggest reason I proposed an alliance is because I have talked to Draklar and he seemed to be a good person who was helpful to us.  It was never meant to cause such an uproar where insults were flung around and hit the innocent.  I guess we can give it time and see were and when our paths cross.

P.S. If it was because of our alignment (Neutral Good), we have already changed it to Chaotic neutral.

P.S.S. To me n00b is a relative term.  It means something different to me than it does to some of the other forum members.  I do not mean it in a negative way, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thank you for the compliment Valbrandr.
I was and am giving you a chance. Or else I wouldn\'t have told you that you had to think about posting some advantages to the three guilds and that your alignment was worthy of the alliance.
The ones who didn\'t give you a chance were the ones that laughed at you with no reason, creating this unpleasant situation. It\'s not our fault that this mess was started.
Were it for me we would be discussing what could be gained with such an alliance, instead of discussing how we have insulted one another.
Since it was not our fault to begin with, I propose to ignore the obvious culprits and discuss this more privately to keep from their destructive meddling.

PS: Unfortunely Draklar is not a member of the Dark Empire. He has been, not so much time ago.
If you checked our site and found him in the list I must apologize, we have had some trouble in updating our fragnetics site.

You are inactive by the fact that none of your top members have been seen around the Planeshift community for months now, and possibly longer.  In fact, only the lowest ranking members are active here.

And I don\'t see how \"any other active player\" has to do with anything, as I am talking about a guild, and no it would not work if you put player instead of guild...because your not.

So, how am I blind again?

You\'re blind because you can\'t see that the Dark Empire is not inactive.
I\'m a Shadowmaster, a member of the Dark Empire High Council. It\'s our decision if we don\'t inform other people about promotions, and it\'s not updated on our site yet because we\'re having trouble updating our fragnetics site.

Yes, my mistake when I spoke about \"any other player\". Should have said any other guild. Anyway, if we weren\'t active why would I be looking at this alliance issue?

I don\'t get this, I\'m blind because The Dark Empire does not know how to update their site, or inform the rest of the community when they promote people.  I\'m blind because The Dark Empire has maybe 2-3 members who actually act within the community.

No, you can be as withdrawn as you want, but it\'s not anyone elses fault if you are going to be mistaken for inactive or willing to take alliances when all we have to go on is what you randomly decide to tell us, and you are not even the leader.

EDIT in reply to Draklar:  For all I know, Kwartz is.  And if he owned a website saying that he was actually a woman, I don\'t see why it is so hard to believe people might mistake it for the truth.

sooo... it\'s better to make false assumptions than to just shut up?

Thereby I announce that Kwartz is a woman irl... because he didn\'t officially announce that he isn\'t.
