I will give it a shot..

Name: ??

Type: Half disc, with very many and small needels containing poison on the straight side and blade ish on the round side

Impact damage: If you throw it like you would with a frisebie, it might cut the target badly and then pierce into the body which will break the needels, leaving the body poisoned and with half needles inside it. Can also be used as a melee weapon

Damage: Very very very leathal due to the sharp blade and the poisonos needels

Price: This disc is very time consuming to make and needs time to apply the poison inside the needels. Only a few persons know how to make the special needels and the tradional poison so the price is very high. If you find a person with it, he\'s not likely to sell it because of the rareness

I don\'t know if it\'s original but I thought it sounded good :)
And I know I spell bad :P

Shot of God
« Reply #31 on: September 30, 2004, 11:46:52 pm »
Not sure if its very original... (it\'s a shoulder launched giant crossbow...) but I like its idea (history had giant crossbow, but not portable one.

Name: Shot of Azure

Hand: One handed.

Damage type: Piercing, Explosion.

Projectile 1:  Conventional bolt/arrow, cost varies with material.
Projectile 2:  Bolts housed in a tube that lightly clips to the string.  Bolts flies out when fired, causing area damage, moderately expensive.
Projectile 3:  Crystal tipped arrow (too thick to be just an arrow), which explode on impact, expensive.

Description: The weapon resembles crossbow, with a size between a hand held crossbow and a ballista.  Two straps with a shoulder mount allows the weapon to be carried on the back, a swiveling shoulder mount also allows the weapon to be brought up with ease.  Two pulleys at the middle of the crossbow guides the bow string allow the string to be pulled back further without touching the wielder.  The weapon goes from 3 feet (small) to 7 feet (very large).  A crank roughly a foot in front of the shoulder mount is connected to an internal mechanism that pulls the string backward when cranked.  A trigger is position at arm length away from the shoulder and a sight is mounted slightly below the bow itself to assist in aiming the weapon.

Strength - High damage.  Very long ranged.  Relatively accurate against slower targets.

Weakness - Relatively heavy.  When wielded causes a heavy penalty in to-hit and to-block rate.  Slow reload time, and even slower for weaker characters.  Accuracy decreases for faster targets.

Cost - Expensive, both the weapon and the ammo.

Sumamry - Designed from strong archers, the Shot of Azure\'s incredible range and damage provides devastating support against hostile archers.  However, due to its inaccuracy, it is not advised to fire at enemies engaged in melee combat with friendly fighters.  When along, the Shot of Azure provides the archer an early advantage with its long range and strength.  Because of its slow reload time, it is advised that the archers switch to their prefered weapon after the use of Shot of Azure.

I made this weapon up in the \'New ranged weapon\' thread as an example for using the yoyo concept and designing a weapon...
I\'m not sure if it fits exactly here but thought I\'d try my luck. Its basically a ball and chain type weapon so theres no reason why it couldn\'t be swung and released, or It might be considered a \'ranged\' melee weapon considering its supposed to have a long chain.

Name : Devils (<- maybe replace with appropriate creature in planeshift like \'Tremor\' or what have you) Tongue

Description : A hand sized loop with a strong chain attacted connected at the other end to a spindle inside an outer two halved shell. The outer shell is attached to the spindles sides and curves around most of the spindle itself, leaving only a slightly larger then chain width opening for the chain. The hand loop attaches into a slot along the chain opening ( where the chain is wrapped around ) and clicks into a simple locking mechanism. Thus weapon is carried \'locked\' looking like a loop connected to a spiked or bladed ball. In more elaborate designs the spikes/blades are retracted until the chain unlockes, also larger designs have the hand inside the ball holding a bar.

Use : If a strong enough force, such as a throw action occurs the locking mechanism releases and the ball can unwind. If used correctly the ball flies at its target bludgeoning them and if bladed slicing them. The weapon now acts as a ball and chain (if you\'ve ever seen \'Salute of the Jugger\' you\'ll know how effective a chain can be when swung, then add in a ball full spikes/blades ;D. Anyway it can also be used to disarm targets (wrap around a sword/axe and pull it away) or entangle legs or choke if skilled enough. After combat it is wound back up and locked.

Pros : easy to carry, range, ability to disarm/entangle.

Cons : hard to use, in most cases effective against one target only. Wound up after combat, takes time.

Do not repeat the tactics which have gained you one victory, but let your methods be regulated by the infinite variety of circumstances.

Name: Dagger Whip

# Hands: one handed.

Projectile: Dagger\'s blade.

Damage: Piercing, Slashing.  The blade is preferably poisoned.

Shape: Identical to a normal dagger, except for a ring at the hilt-end with the width of three fingers.  Enclosed in it are two smaller rings about 1 and a quarter finger width each.

Description: The dagger whip is a medium ranged attack weapon.  The dagger\'s hilt contains two set of springs, a launch spring and a winding spring.  Both can be wound by placing the two finger through the rings at the base of the hilt and twirl the daggers several times.  When wounded, a trigger press near the base of the blade releases the blade and launch the firing spring.  A second pull activates the winding spring, pulling the blade back by the chain.  However, due to its small size, the weapon itself does little damage when fired.  It does, however, becomes highly effetive when used in conjunction with poison.

Pros: Light weight, fast firing time., and quite accurate.  Same effectiveness as a dagger in melee combat.

Cons: Low ranged damage.  Possibility of jamming.  Slow reload.

Cost: Somewhat expensive.

Suggestion: The weapon excels at assisting a player escaping from battle.  The poisoned blade and the fast firing speed allow the player to make his/her pursuer pay for their impudence.

Weapon name: Kuruko\'s Green Leafs Cedar Bow

How many hands needed: Two

Weapon Base: Mostly wood but with metal handle for better precision

Projectile: Magic Arrows

Type of impact: Piercing Fire and grass entangling arrows

What it looks like: Description:Green Blue wood with some leaves around it.

Name: Charmnet

Description: small bag of powder that can be attached to an arrow or a bolt when it hits the target a large cloud of pink and purpe dust floats arond the target and making it paralyzed it is mainly used when trying to escape because the duration is not very long, but it is just enough to turn around and run away it must hit in the upper half of the target

when used against weak opponents the only chance of failure is when you miss, but when fighting against stronger opponents the opponent can also either aviod it or hit it so that it falls down on the ground and only paralyzing frogs and mice

Good old slingshots shouldn\'t be forgotten, cheap weapon with cheap ammo, yet lethal. Alchemists could throw glass vials containing acid or explosive liquids (very expensive though). Throwing spears could be winged to increase accuracy and range.

I don\'t think that anything with more complex mechanics than a crossbow should be available. It would only seem strange.

Well lets see ...

Weapon name: Glypinator :D (well its the first thought)

How many hands needed: two

Weapon Base: Made out of Metal, Wood, a bit of crystal (if there is any Crystal later on)

Projectile: metal bolts, like 5-10 inch i would say

Type of impact: Pierce damage (could be expanded to impact explosion)

What it looks like: It looks like a rilfe however the barrel where you put the bolts is half open on the full lenght. You need to insert a glyp into the weapon to operate (the glyp delivers the power to shoot the bolt). When a bolt is shot you can see a thin trace in the air (from the glyp power) - therefore the weapon is not suited for assassins as this would reveal their position.
(i am trying to think of a better design and will make a picture if i find the time).

Strengths: Long range weapon, straight fire line due to magical power, delivers a bit of magical damage with the projectile.

Weaknesses: Not very powerful if only piercing damage, glyph needs to be replaced after X shots (ie 20,30), requires magical knowledge.

Costs: Higher maintance cost due to projectiles and glyphs as ammunition. Could be expensive since constructing it requires a smith with magical knowledge.

It mainly is a secondary weapon, since replacing the glyp takes time - therefore you are vulnerable.

Edit: Added Picture, removed typo

Weapon Name: Poachers Web

Description: Orrigionally consructed of all leather and used to hunt small animals, heavier versions of this weapon ar popular as anti-archer/spellcaster weapons. The poachers web is simmillar in principle to the bola. It consists of central iron ring attached to a long lanyard. Radiating from the ring are 12-20 leather thongs reinforcing a thin membraneous material (perhapse oiled silk) the ends of the thongs attach to a circular metal chain the whole of which circularises into a disk when spun. Around the circumferential chain are attached 12-20 sharp barbed hooks. The overall diameter of the projectile is 18-30 inches. the launcher is a ~30 inch long wooden shaft with a spring-loaded claw assembly at one end and a trigger to open the claw near the other end. The poachers web is launched by first attaching the launchers claw to the circumferrential chain. The launcher is twirled above the head untill the spinning chain circularises. The web is then launched like a sling, by flicking the launcer towards the target while triggering the claw release. In flight, the web behaves like a frisbee. When the leading edge of the web contacts the target, the barbed hook at that location sets, and the ring collapses while the angular momentum of the spinning chain brings all the other hooks around to set themselves in the target.

Materials: wood, leather iron, fine cloth, enchanted giant spider silk(for lanyard, very hard to come by)

Hands: two to prepare, one to launch and \"play\" afterward.

Damage: the innitial strike does damage simmillar to a medium quality dagger. If the weapon penetrates the armor of the opponent, then the hooks are set in flesh and do damage. If the armor sucessfully hits but does not penetrate the opponents armor, It may nonetheless be set in the armor piece. The likelihook to grapple armor is high for cloth, wood, leather and maille armors, almost nonexistent for plate or cuir-boulle armors. If the web sets, the intricate hooks are too dificult to remove during combat, and the target is attached to the assailant by the lanyard. If the web is set in flesh, then each turn the assailant tugs on the lanyard, inflicting moderate dagger-level damage, and drawing the target closer to him. If it is set in armor, no damage is taken, but the target cannot run away and is drawn towards the assailant. I the latter case, the target may free himself by unequiping the armor piece which he then forfeits to the assailant. Any hit by this weapon to any form of armor should inflict significant wear to the armor.

Advantages: Meelee fighters can grapple lightly armored ranged fighters and force them into close engagement.

Disadvantages: rare components, difficult weapon to learn, useless against most heavier armors, chance on a miss that weapon will become attached to a tree or other object and cannot be used for the rest of combat, occupies one hand for the duration of combat otherwise the lanyard is dropped and the enemy can get away (taking your expensive web with them!!!)

Weapon Name: Winder disk

Description: a round spiked shield mounted from the wrist on the baskside of your hand up to your elbow.
Under the diamond/steel/metal shield on one side is a spring based winding mechanism with a gear  that will gradually store up potential energy.  When the gear clutch thing is let go by the user the mechanism will unwind causing the mechanism to rotate rapidly.  Holders attached to the spinning mechanism holding any useful throwing items (poison daggers or darts) will hit a specially lubricated board while spinning and then slide off of the holder and in the direction the board is pointing to, causing a sort of rapid fire effect.
Size varies from user to user, the bigger the Winder disk, the better (more storage adn power)

Materials: steel, iron, stronger metals, diamond, anti -twist spring/ magic resistance field with spring like effect, ammuntion, and a good craftsman who can make sense of a ton a babble

Hands: 3 The mounted-on hand to hold the clutch, the other to wind and load. A third to taunt your enemy.

Damage: Majorly affected by the power of the spring, the amount of winding and the enemy itself.

Advantages: rapid fire weapons, good for doing immense damage at a close to medium range.  The spikes on the shield side could be good for damage once the launching is done and two small weapons could be drawn after use of the Winder disk (if there was a winder disk on each hand that could make four hits in combat with a whip of teh arms) The disk exterior could also be used as a good, although strangly placed shield.

Disadvantages: great strength would be needed an even then one would be slower in combat.  Large amounts of ammunition would be needed for multiple uses. ...and then there\'s the problem of who would make such a thing....

Here one of the most horrid excuses for a rough drawing ever.  Hope it helps...somehow.

Note: I am sorry if this shows any similarity to the Poacher\'s Web, I thought of this weapon before I read about the Poacher\'s Web and didn\'t think that I\'d run into something quite as similar.

Weapon Name: Flouthgar
How many hands: One hand and same arm.
Weapon Base:  Wooden Tube, Cloth acordian thingy like you use to blow air on fires, Flexible bladder.
Projectile: Stout poison arrow.
Type of Impact: Pierce
WHat it looks like. Weird - I\'ll draw a picture tonight.
Stregnths: Accuracy of a blow dart with the added bonus of being able to shoot far harder, including the possibility of piercing armor.

Weaknesses:  A little bulky. Slow firing.

Cost:  Easy to maintain, but replacement arrows are a little above average if you add the poison tip.

It would work like this. Pump your arm repeatedly to fill up a tight flexible sac with air.  More pumps = more pressure.  Straighten  - grab barrel by trigger.  Pulling the trigger releases the air into the barrel thrusting the projectile foreward in the same way a blow dart is launched.

Update: Typo\'s and Grammer fixes.

Not a sligshot. but let stones fly!
« Reply #44 on: June 28, 2006, 04:51:26 pm »
Hi all!

Got 2 ideas for throwing stones
First the easier one:

Weapon name: Murmur Stick, cause of the sound it does used

How many hands needed: one or two

Weapon Base: wooden stick

Projectile: Stones, spiked wooden balls or easy breaking leatherbags carrying burnable oil or acid. all with a hole in it.

Type of impact: blunt piercing or burning target

What it looks like: at the down side of the stick (appr.3-4 feet long) there is a handhold. somewhat higher there is a cross-brace where the projectile rests. the stick may be bended lightly, can be flexible a bit. there is a simple trigger mechanic to release the projectile. the effect the primitive weapon has: it makes you throw farer than only with your hands. especially for the dwarves (high strength, short arms)

Strengths: short reload time, various ammo: burning oilbags good for heavy armor, easy to learn. can be ised to defend in close combat but gets damaged then.

Weaknesses: less precise and less damage for long ranges.

Costs: murmur stick is very cheap. ammo prize a bit higher than a arrow, depends on kind.

the second idea is a one-man-catapult

Weapon name: Arm of earth

How many hands needed: 2

Weapon Base: a wooden column and a spring steel

Projectile: stones, leatherbags with burning oil

Type of impact: blunt, burning

What it looks like: the basic is a wooden column or 2 wooden stacks with a metal pike and foot rest at lower end to fix it at the ground. this is hold by one hand. the other hand bows the huge spring steel, fixed at the lower end of culomn, back. at the top of the spring steel the ammo can be placed.

Strengths: the stones can break shields and armor, wooden walls either. long range

Weaknesses: unpecise. high strength required. physically exhausting, heavy to carry. hard to learn

Costs: high price for weapon, ammo prize varies: stone cheap
