First it depends on the variant of DSL you have: HDSL, SDSL, ADSL, VDSL.
HDSL can get up to 2MBit up and down, you need 3 copper cable pairs for that.
SDSL is always equally fast in both directions (hence
symmetric DSL

), needs only one pair of cables. But at least in good ol\' Yurop you have to win the lottery to be able to afford it. Twice. Also 2MBit max.
ADSL ist the most common variant, downstream max 8MBit, upstream max. 1MBit. One pair of cables.
VDSL goes up to a whopping 52 MBit/s for downstream, upstream 2.3 MBit. Problem: the length between the computer and the main switch cannot exceet 300 metres (that\'s 328 yards for those who favour the strange length units

)
Perhaps the ethernet adapter has 100 MBit/s

Otherwise I know who will host a PS server in the future.
