server down (not)
« on: June 29, 2004, 10:27:51 pm »
when I upload It says the server is not online, but when I check in 2 seconds, it is up, I try again still same prob, I heard it might be due to firewall, but almost all the online games I try work online, except those that don\'t install :(

Hmm, does it actually say that the server isn\'t running? If so, then that is odd... try looking quickly thru some of the stickies and see if your question is answered. I haven\'t heard of that happening (except once when I tried to upload, but it worked when I tried again)

Is the server hostname correct? (does it say planeshift.fragnetics.com?)
:-/

And have you actually tried disabling your firewall?

Note: You shouldn\'t need to disable it entirely. Just allow UDP traffic access through port 13331. If you don\'t know how to do this, consult the firewall\'s documentation or readme.

well I never disable my firewall any more than it is, and games ussually work (unless I can\'t install)

exact message:
\"The server is not running or cannot be reached. Please check website or forums for more information.\"

the thing is that it probably is not the firewall. :(

try opening a command prompt and typing ping planeshift.fragnetics.com, see if you get packet losses... That could mean a flaky connection between you and fragnetics... There\'s not much you can do about that other than switching ISPs... Sorry I can\'t offer more help...

Oh, and give us a straight answer please, did you or did you not open port 13331 on your router? It appears to me that you are avoiding the quest ion >.> ... ^_^

Ah Ha! I was right! >.> Nevermind :P

If the firewall is a hardware thingy (built into your router) then you access it usually by going to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in your web browser.
The default passwords for a linksys router are username: and password: admin
dlink router is username: admin password: (i dunno, maybe...) admin
From there you can get to port open/closing... check your documentation on how since it varies from router to router (or at least brand to brand :P)

If it is a software firewall you should have an icon in the system tray, next to the time thingie (you have to click an arrow to see all of them in Win XP IIRC, but I\'m not sure since I can\'t check since I\'m on a Mac...) double click on that should bring up the control panel which (check your documentation on how) should let you open/close ports

josePhoenix (Hope you can get this resolved before CB is released)

I\'d treat it the same way as \"linkdead\". Probably, the firewall/router doesn\'t like UDP. Also, Port forwarding will be necessary unless it\'s a personal firewall on the same PC, which it doesn\'t seem to be.

- Open UDP 13331 in and outbound
- use server IP (which is 203.81.47.74) instead of name
- forward the port properly

Most likely, you\'d run into linkdead anyway after solving this one so it will not hurt.
