STORYLINE
« on: July 20, 2004, 03:45:48 pm »
I Wonder... with technology now taht we can use for the game we coudl make a very very good storline.

Has anyone played Morrowind? because i liked teh storyline in that. but as this is online u dont have to have a set storyline but u could bring evil enemies into it and random events where all the players are needed to defend teh world

(this is just speculating as teh game is in early development but once things are mostly finished it is possible)

so maybe before they decide we should get in our own ideas or starting plots for the storyline.

my idea is mostly based on what happens in FF-X and Morrowind but because of the open class system this may not be possible

Already discussed.  Cannot be implemented until far-future versions.  Belongs in \"Wishlist\" forum.

Morrowind story wasnt that good and was definetly not that much of it.
FFX sucked alot.

but i do agree that it would be fun for big story event that affects each person differently would be cool.

I played morrowind... pretty open-ended... very fun RPG
storyline is okay already if you ask me.... it\'s called Fantasy.... so things dont really need to be realistic! :)

@visser: Altharion\'s right, Morrowind\'s story wasn\'t that good, and FF-X did suck alot (and so did FFX2).

\"Hmm, okay, lets get a long and boring story and add some lost technology to make up for our lack of creativity, implement the same boring classes with a crappy interface, and uber-linear storyline, so the game is beatable by an 8-year old. Oh, and make them all be 17-year old kids.\"

\"Now this second one, (which is really the first one, because we don\'t want to draw attention away from FF11 Online)  we\'ll fill with alot of cleavage and a**, the more the better, oh, and to make things comfortble, lets stay in the same world, with the same engine, with the same places, with the same people. Oh, and pop music and some more a**! Yes, and fill it with a totally moronic mission system!\"

@FlippySeal: Sorry to say, but that\'s just an excuse people use to throw whatever they want into a game.

\"Hey, its a \'Fantasy\' world, so why couldn\'t we have cars and airplanes in our midevil-type setting?\"

\"Oh yes, that\'s cool, some old technology lost in the distant past would definetly spice up the game.\"

Hehe...No.

Try to think about wat \"fits\" in the game, and perhaps try reading the background story to get an idea about what level of technology the world is at.

To contribute to the quests and storyline of the game, you need a pretty good understanding of how the settings work, what things are currently available, what is planned, what is being worked on, etc. So, instead of passively coughing up ideas whenever you think you find something interesting, join the settings team and help create the plots of the game. That is, to be honest, the only real way to do it.

By the way, moved the thread to the wish list.

If you read all the books Morrowind has a really good storyline, its a pitty that you actually have to go out and search for the books though

Uhh Monketh this IS in the wishlist forum...  good points everyone...  and yep Morrowind and FFX werent that good BUT i bet all of us have played about a million different RPG\'s multiplayer or not so why dont we take a leaf out of their book.

Think what you liked about those rpg\'s and think if u could have an idea to incorporate it in to planeshift.

i have to say one thing i had an RP meet\'n\'greet in game and Monketh and I had fun because we used aspects of the game already in there and used teh environment but RP\'s will be even better WHEN we get CB.

Any estimates on that BTW.

OOPS sorry monketh.. what forum was thsi in before???

http://groups.msn.com/AliensversusPredatorversushuman/info.msnw

as yo ucan see from this i am a big fan of teh Alien + Predator films. but i have also bin involved in Medieval and modern world RP\'s so i have some experience. but judge for yourself

;( ..i liked ffx..., it was fun

anyways...the setting is actually coming underway...(brain fart... forgot what the point of these thread, and my reply are for...)

*reads* /me is mentally belittled

OK, as i was saying the storyline ison back row, i myself offered hellp in it, the reply was that they had all the help they needed, and that 3d stuffs and gmae mechs were more in need. As an mmorpg, there cant be much of a \"Storyline\" due to the fact that it should be a stroy about you character. there should be an impressive background, and an immersive culture, but no \"storyline\" that should be followed.

most people here are new to mmorpgs, i am begining to realize this (myself playing them for 5+ years) you cant really pull story elemnts from traditional rpgs, it really doesn\'t work since there is no end to an mmorpg.
and ther are others things that you relly just cant do, jsut takes a while to realize them

my how times have changed.....

hey! what if the team makes a scenario where a player (picked for whatever reason) would be evil and his strenght would be greatly increased. he would gain special powers and a challenge would be given. he has to live and defeat the all powerful team of player protecters that will try to defend the land against him. if he wins he can keep the powers if they win they each get a power.

It\'s more likely to go: A GM decides to spawn a big monster and send it towards town carrying a valuable loot. The players must then defend the town, and if they kill the monster they will each be given a share of the loot... or the killer will get it all... or some such method.
