Ability's (if they will exist)
« on: August 06, 2004, 02:35:32 am »
Ok wev had a Spell list... now i wanna see ideas for a ranger and warrior ability list. i mean they gotta have abilitys right?? at the end of the post ill give examples so you know what i mean.

The difference is dont screw this up with posts about abilitys that could destroy the world as we know it and that are clearly un-fair in a MMORPG world.

I want an order to things like this:

Skill type: Warrior/Ranger/Both

Skill Name: (Name)

LvL to use: Low / Med / Hi

Stamina Used (or whatever they will use): low / Med / Hi

Effect: (Damage/Protection/Boost)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
EXAMPLE

Type: Ranger

Name: Double Shot          -  EDIT: Boudle to Double

Lvl: Med

Stamina Used: 1/8

Effect: Shoots 2 arrows instead of one dealing normal damage at the same target with the same chance to hit.

I was gonna wit to see what other people post but i gtg to bed and i dont wanna come bak in the morning to see a failed thred so im just gonna reel of some ideas ive had.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Type: Warrior

Name: Restrain

LvL: Low (but will fail if enamie is stronger)

Stamina: All

Effect: Only to be used on mages it holds them down stoping them casting spells... it also prevents the warrior from fighting as he is busy restraining. Max length 15sec but shorter if the mage is strong.
(good for group battles)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Type: Ranger

Name: Leap

LvL: Low but will increse in height as lvl increses

Stamina: Low

Effect: converts the user\'s jump to a leap which is double in height and gets hier as the lvl increses.
(used for getting a vantage point)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Type: Warrior

Name: Cower (ok dont sound great but...)

LvL: Med

Stamina: Med

Effect: causes the warrior to hide behind his sheild reducing damage by 70% but reducing speed by 50%
(usde by warriors trying to get close to a ranger to rip his spindly head off)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Type:Warrior

Name:Stomp

LvL: High

Stamina: High

Effect: stops all nearby charicters from moving for 3 seconds you for 2 and deals radial damage more if closer less if further.
(help ranger friends get a good shot)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Type: Both

Name: Rage

LvL: Med

Stamina: Half

Effect: The rage increses the delt damage by standard attack but reduces accuracy.

Thats all for now but i got loads more if you havent got ideas tell me what you think of mine.

There arn\'t even levles in the game and there will never be the game is skill based if \"lvl to use\" is the char lvl

It is easier to hate than it is to love.

it could be based on strength for warriors and dexterity for archers... they sound like lvls to me, im sure when i made my charicter i gave it a strength LEVEL!!!!! of 40.

so there are lvls shut up

Wouldn?t this balance out the ?Everyone wants to be a Mage? thing?
I posted something suggesting stuff like this in the ?Mana Upkeep - A System of Magic? thread?

Just ignore the ?LvL to use? thing, doen?t close the thread because of that?.

I?m going to have a mage/ranged-weapons mix so this may help my ranged skills, it?s like non-magic magic?

Skill type: Ranged (Bow & Arrow)

Skill Name: Wings of the Wind

How do you get this skill: It takes a while to find the book that enables this skill?

Stamina Used (or whatever they will use): Med to High + long charging time.

Effect: An Elvish (weaponsmithing) arrow blessing, can be perform this in combat to? Makes the arrow never miss, you can only bless one arrow @ a time & it takes a long time to do this. You can sell Blessed Arrows & they are valuable.

Nothing wrong with listing a \"level to use\" - it\'s just a general indication of how rare / difficult the ability is.  I think disarm abilities would be cool (at any ability level).  The proposed \"cower\" also sounds like a useful strategy, applicable to all skill levels with different results.

The ability to shoot (accurately) while running or riding would be handy for speedy ranged fighter or hunter types.

This might get tricky, but the ability to *anticipate your opponents moves* would be really neat, and would reflect the kind of experience and insight often rolled into \"XP\" scores and level (also wisdom would be relevant here).  Of course, the abilty to act on such insight would have to depend on dexterity, strength, and weaponry.

Perhaps fighting in close quarters or while restrained could be a skill?  Needless to say, you can\'t get a full swing of a battleaxe while in a narrow tunnel or hall (which I\'m sure will exist somewhere).  Being able to use your weapons effectively in such quarters would make you much more able to explore cramped spaces.

Tracking abilities would be cool - skilled trackers could \"see\" the trail left by other creatures.

Hate to sound like I think I\'m a mod or something, but it seems really inappropriate to make \"close this thread!\" posts.  If you\'re really concerned about it PM a mod, but if you think a thread sucks you can also let it slide, without being a jerk.
