General Discussion / Re: Pre-release of PlaneShift 0.5 and ChangeLog

For a while it was crashing as soon as the client loaded, sometimes giving me an error. Eventually I found out it was because the 'skins' box was blank, as soon as I set it to 'elves' then it loaded fine

To be honest, the thing that inspired me to make this topic was when I ran the PS updater expecting megabytes of new awesome and.....

"No updates needed"

Not a single modification to any game files in almost a whole year?

I've been away from PlaneShift for almost a year now, how's the game coming along?

General Discussion / Re: A Reference: PS Curse Words
« on: July 08, 2009, 02:48:04 am »
Personally, I like to think that this is a game for mature audiences and that no curse words can exceed the quality of the ones we use IRL.

Or maybe it's more that I find 99% of made up 'medieval fantasy' curse words to be so utterly ridiculous.

Oh this is awesome, I'll get to work right away. I have the perfect voice for the death guardian and any other talking monsters, also I can do like an evil british or dexter morgan style neutral voice which I'll try for other death realm npcs :)

I would like to see spells in the dark way that protect you from negative effects of death. Realm 5 spells would include things like avoiding stat penalty and being able to create small gates of your own for moving about the death realm, stuff like that.

As far as I know, this is one of the only flash games that is technically a browser based MMO with full online multiplayer.

http://s1deadfrontier.net/refer.php?ID=296416&SERVER=s1deadfrontier.net

That's actually a referral link so that if you play to lvl 10 I get $1000 ;)

The game is a little grindey - but the combat-action-horror style gameplay is really fun nevertheless. Think about what would happen if you started with Runescape and then changed the game into Resident Evil.

EDIT: Also, if you're the kind that doesn't mind paying for games, I highly reccomend UT3/CS:S/Orange Box/Garry's Mod off Steam

General Discussion / Re: Godmodding GMs!
« on: May 07, 2009, 01:36:27 am »
So, I'm only on the forums for a few minutes and don't have time to read the whole thread, but I need to put something into this:

It is the role of GM's to cause certain situations in the game

It is the role of players to make a decision or act as they see fit according to the situation

It is then the role of the GM's to decide upon and enforce the repercussions of said decision/act, be it (as mentioned in Daj's original post) throwing up due to bad pie, or being spontaneously stripped.

A GM's are MEANT to 'godmod' as you call it, it is their job to arbitrarily choose how things play out, hopefully keeping as close to IC realism as possible. If a GM spawns a bunch of monsters at the mine, it's ok so long as the GM can think of a valid IC motive for them to do so.

If GM's didn't decide what happens and apply it, then absolutely nothing would happen because we have no scripted random game events and everything would suck.

I should probably be more worried then I am, seeing as I a) have a very weak immune system and b) use Sydney's public transport almost every day

But, everyone knows young people are indestructible.

They don't go out to find me, I go to them when I know I'm needed. It's good money.

General Discussion / Re: Weekly roleplay lessons

I'm pretty sure there are threads dedicated to this, like explaining the function and ideals of roleplay. But if you think there's a genuine need for in-game tutelage then I could help, I have a knack for being able to explain things really easily.
