Dark Ages (Nexon Inc) - Pros: Really fun/cute game, Large community, Free to download and only US$8 per month to play.  The makers had some really neat concepts for roleplaying.  One day I was wandering through my char\'s home city and I got called to JURY DUTY.  That\'s right.  The GM\'s masked my character name, stuck me in a box on a bench with 7 other players, and we ended up convicting some poor sap of a game violation.  (I believe he got a 24 hour ban from the city, and the accuser was his college roomate, who admitted after the fact that he was innocent and set him up as a prank).  The prosecution, the accuser (another player), and the accused used screenshots, logs and testimony from other players to present a great case.  It was fun, especially since the entire court session was also judged on RP.  If you slipped OOC the chances of the Jury and Judge ruling in favor of your oppenent increased greatly.

Goldir, that one comparision there just gave me a brilliant idea what can be incorporated into PS for crime and punishment along with the other ideas i have which i pretty much came up with during the time when i played WoW as i felt there was no justice and the guild were useless when i used to get slaughtered by a high lvl player. Your a genious man, i got to add that to my idea. That also adds to roleplaying element if the incorporated something like that in PS and also creates justice but also injustice as there is in the real world.

General Discussion / Re: Planeshift vs World of Warcraft
« on: September 10, 2006, 11:14:18 pm »
PS has more creative goals then WoW much much more from what ive read from the creators. WoW is a real basic kids game, the idea is simple there is no freedom and it has pretty graphics to pull people into it so they spend a lot of money a month on it and even the expansion pack is not revolutionary, oh and the professions are truly usless as you cannot really use those professions to make money, its more like to help yourself but not to make money due to the common way of makign money as they made it is from drops and instances. This is why i hated the game as i wanted t become a shop owner and have a shop and be known as a master crafter of fine quality swords.

Note: if you wish to play WoW fro nothing on the net with a bit of quests missing and thinsg not workign then visit the Burning crusade emulator site.

This game differs in the way that your profession means something and money can be made from it and also in other ways and also the world evlolves which for soem reason it didnt in WoW even though there is a war going on or a fragile truce, which of course once upon a time cities could be raided but then they stopped this from happening so you live in a static world and everyone does the same thing to make money and no one really relies heavily on one another and on other professions.

and that is the difference between the two, WoW works on the idea that nothign really needs a purpose it just has to be a static simple type of play, and PS works on the idea that everything should have a purpose and that everythign shoudl rely upon each other and upon characters that you role play and have a history.

One thing though that can be said about WoW and what you can see from the screenshots is that there models do look pretty sweet but more so there control system and also layout of information and skills are much neater and less screen consuming then PS.

If PS did have graphics like WoW, and the controls were as good as WoW and usless information wasnt displayed and inmformation and skills were displayed much neater and much simpler as WoW is whilst also completing the goals PS originally stated as in a evolving world, taxes, leaders, punishment, building contruction, then PS would not only be on the same level as WoW but also 5 times above WoW in creativity, technologically and popular.

We just need soem good programmers, 2d 3d graphic artists and then this will be possible, i really do hope PS gets to that stage because I really hate blizzard for making me pay 85 AU $ and 37 AU$ every 2 months to play and then disapointing me with there pitiful crappy ideas and lies and also there poor service as in contant disconnection and no australian server and never implementing good ideas that people posted in the forums. I want PS to show that companies are garbage at making games and free MMORPGS that are more visually stunning and stable are possible and also to show how internet entertainment should be, for free and not payed for.

Just wondering if it is easy to play around wit the source such as making a map and adding new models and pretty much all visual stuff that can be seen but does not need a lot of programming knowledge, like changing existing levels to look better or makign models look better and replacing the file that already exists for that model.

Im asking because when i get back from holidays i want to do that and take screenshots of it ingame on my own server as this woudl probably be a pretty good way of showing of talents or showing improvements that can be made.

Wish list / Re: Is it possible for a new camera control
« on: September 08, 2006, 02:34:53 pm »
There are already two mouselook keys, (on/off) and (hold). Perhaps you are using the wrong one? :)

Of course a smoother method would be good, but it's not a matter of just adding grease :) I think we have enough options, but making what we have more accessable would be a good step.

I tried what you suggested and even though it makes thinsg a little easier, it still isnt that smooth and also the rotation of the camera is anoying as it rotates around the player from a distance instead of rotating from the center of the player and theyoom dictating the distance. I tried to mess around with the camera options but im not sure if it is possible to make the camera rotate around the center of the player model. im not sure how i would describe it correctly, i think the camera rotation axis is not in the center of the model which is anoying when rotating the camera and walking, running.

i didnt know there was another key that u could just hold. the options are like well very confusing and large and unorganised so i have never really understood what is what. but i will look into it, ill try find tha method now, hopefully you can run and turn whilst holding the camera key down.

I know it can be done already, but the camera is controlled by actually triggering it on and off through the use of a key which makes it difficult for smooth player and camera control which is required for levels such as the death realm where ou need to look around so you dont end up running of the edge and have objects blocking you and have to readjust teh camera constantly.

a smoother method as i described would just make things a little bit easier and make people look less like characters from the thunderbirds.

Wish list / Is it possible for a new camera control
« on: September 03, 2006, 02:07:35 pm »
Is it possible for someone to program a new camera control called lets say smart. the idea is this;

LEFT MOUSE BUTTON
*hold left mouse button to rotate the camera around
Note: mouse pointer is hidden

*release left mouse button and mouse pointer is shown again, camera also stays in the last position when the button was released.
Note:When runnign the camera is rotated to the back of the player, vertical(up down position) postion of camera is not effected only horizontal.

*player can turn character left or right while holding the left mouse button and rotating teh camera.

RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON
* hold right mouse button and move left to right to turn character quickly, and up and down to tilt camera vertically.
Note:running and using the player left and right turn keys will automatically change into left and right strafe keys.
Note:mouse pointer hidden until right mouse button released.

SCROLL BUTTON
*always zooms in and out towards the player when either button is held or not held and has colision detection.

I  doubt it. Apparantly they wanted somthing unique and original, which is why we wont be having dogs, cats and horses etc.
the only thing they skipped that on was a few player  races..

They might consider doing a planeshift version of Vampires but I dont know.....

Isnt tha a bit of a pipe dream, because these days it is very, very difficult to make somethign original, for example music, it is hard to get an original tune or lyrics unless you just mix a bit of everythign to create a new sound but not nessecerally a oringinal unique sound.

Originality is nice, but if it is to difficult to create enough creatures that have not been created before then they should like relax a bit on trying to make everything original or else you are going to have very little variety of creatures in the world.

I suppose you coudl get a bit of original looking creatures but i dont think you can get many out of it, it takes a lot of hours messing around with concept art and mixing various creatures together and styles.

I dont get it, i understand roleplaying but punishing yourself through role playing isnt really part of role playing or others punishing you, just seems like there are no laws that way and it has nothign much to do with roleplaying. I dont know anymore, i read of things that are gonna be implemented but now it seems tha people are saying punishments and laws fixd into the game mechanics have no need.

And having to agree with fighting a player is a bit lame if that is how it is, its liek you are moving away from reality of how things work in real life and more into a staged theatrical play or soem kind off scripted programing language world.

I dont know what the hell this game is about or its goals or anything anymore.

ah well who cares

General Discussion / Re: IMPORTANT: How you talk to NPCs has changed!
« on: September 02, 2006, 02:18:03 pm »
Im just wondering what the purpose is of telling the NPC hello and talking to thzem as if they were a real person. if there is no purpose to it apart from getting training or obtaining a quest then can you just simply make it one click and whatever information you wanted comes up in a dialogue box which you click and the NPC simply greets you and tells you who he is when you approach and click in him. It would be a bit of a pain in the ass having to know which commands work and which dont if that is how it is, though i havnt played the recent PS yet but always had problems adjusting to how you had to speak with NPC.

can they just punish them by giving them a large fine or like eventually loosing a good standing reputatiopn so that gaurds if they were working would kill them on site. hen again you would need police in the game as people jobs, or npcs that would isuue the fine and take there money which could possibly go to the people running the city.

I'm sorry to be harsh... Ok, I'm lying. Frankly, it took me five minutes to get the courage to read past the mispelt "the" in your post. If you either can't spell "the" or are typing so fast that you mispelt it, then either your opinion isn't worth much, or you're just spouting off steam. As it is, you're just spouting off steam. Go to the Plaza for that.

Sorry I am on dialup, i do not have the time to write out a large post perfectly  :P
