Challenge problem
« on: November 15, 2005, 06:38:20 pm »
I thought I should challenge someone cause I can\'t kill creatures. I done that and the other person didn\'t wanted. So I tried to challenged someone else instead and then a text appears \"you should\'t invite spam other players\" and then the time I have to wait before I challenge someone or something like that. And then I challenge someone else same message come up. Another one same message. Then I thought I wait that time. Challenge someone and what happens??? I get sent to the Death realm. When I come out I wanna challenge someone again. She declines. I thought I\'ve waited for about 10 minutes. Appeariently I haden\'t. What happend now??? I got kicked. I don\'t see the wrong with challenging peoples. And how long are you kicked? Permanent or temporary?

One single word: realism.
You ran into a system that was made exactly for people like you.
Challenging is not to be done
- without a valid RolePlay reason
- without having previously talked to your would-be opponent

I think this closes your report of being sent to the DR without reason, as the reason is attempted challenge-spamming.

If you mean my other thread it wasn\'t because of challenging.

Use your words...

I\'m quite surprised someone managed to get up to the 4th penalty...  Most people seemed to get the message after 3.

The punishment level is saved to your account, but it can expire with game-play.  The kick is a one time thing; you can log back on immediately after.  I just don\'t feel safe giving the server the power to ban automatically.  :/

Why do you duel? You can mine Diamond Crystals for Trias...

I\'m new in planeshift, but if you should mine you have to get a training for that and to get a training you nedd to have experience points and to get experience points you have to kill monsters. You can\'t kill the monster cause the NPC server is down. So you can\'t mine.

You can also get experience and money from the quests I\'ve been running.  So, if you want exp to mine, you can join in one of those.  They\'re also a nice substitute for random aggression...

Duelling isn\'t because of aggression, but because of people are bored...

People be bored so they wanna do something and the easiest should be to duel. You get bored, you wanna do something, you choose duelling, noone wanna duel, so you keep asking and you get kicked. In the manual it stands that I should say, to the NPC:s, \"Give me a quest\" and the answer from NPC:s \"Give you...? Get a job, freeloader.\" Hard to get a quest.

then you\'re asking the wrong npcs, but that is another thread.

but just because you\'re bored and it is easy to do doesn\'t mean you should do it.

restraint in the key here.

I have nothing against dueling, if both want to.  Just ask to duel with words, and not the /challenge command.  Don\'t pester people with invite spam.

If you want realism then look in the paper. People get murderd and beaten up everywhere. Do you really think the murders go to their targets and ask \"I\'m sorry but I think I have to kill you. Is that OK for you?\" or \"I think I have to beat you up. You don\'t mind that, do you?\". And you can even choose to be a rogue and a streetfighter. Atleast they should be able to attack people without any reason. Shouldn\'t they?

This argument has been posted way too often, and refuted just as many times. And it doesn\'t even cover your \"realism\" of going around and killing people for fun / because you are bored.

Actually rogues and streetfighters don\'t randomly beat up anyone they like. They too need to have valid RP reasons, but whether simply in-character madness or vengeance or fun, I will come in-game expecting you to have a well-made and carefully thought-out roleplaying character. And if you prove to others that you can roleplay and roleplay well, I have no doubts that after you discuss possible \"murder\" scenarios OOC with other people that will be involved, you can play it out wonderfully.

You are not the only person who wants to enjoy the game, remember that.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

And just to make it clear, as was said - OOC, meaning out of character. So it\'s not like your character approaches someone and says \"I\'m sorry but I think I have to kill you. Is that OK for you?\". It\'s you (as a player) that is supposed to approach someone and discuss it (best in /tell ). Just after that your character may carry on its thing.
Keep in mind that asking someone for a duel in the middle of a day on one of the main streets is absurd and shouldn\'t really happen. Unless your character is someone of a sub-normal intelligence. Or to put it in a more descriptive word, an idiot.
