By \"finnish metal\" do you understand bands like Stratovarius, Nightwish and Sonata Arctica
Or bands like Turisas, Ensiferum, Children of Bodom, Cadacross, Moonsorrow, Finntroll and Korpiklaani?

I can\'t talk for others, but for me finish metal has a \"heavyness\" from within, to which bands like \"Slayer\", \"Mushroomhead\" or whatever not even get close, the hardness that isn\'t brought by screamed vocals and such.

Well my favourite wouldnt be fully finish, as the singer is a german and the band itself is connected to iceland.

Technically Falkenbach isn\'t a band, since Vratyas is the only full-time member :P

Agreed with Draklar. I don\'t know how you can actually find Finnish metal boring. But indeed, if you listen to bands like Nightwish and Sonata Arctica...
Hmmh I used to like Nightwish. But then they went too commercial, and nowaday they\'ve split up...Or no, they\'ve put Tarja out of the band.

Children of Bodom, Moonsorrow...FINNTROLL I don\'t know how you can find them boring. I mean...
Or is it just not hard enough for you? Because then you arrive at bands like Gorgoroth, who are not even music anymore. That\'s just...noize :D

Trollhammaren is a good song and all, but Finntroll just isn\'t the same without Katla and Somnium :(
Jaktens Tid = One of the best albums in the world, IMO

I love many metal bands we have here in Finland but I wouldn\'t call our country the most heaviest in the world. It\'s pretty nice though to see so many metal bands in the top 40  :D
The ones that make it big aren\'t really from the heaviest end of the genre so it\'s understandable that some people abroad can get the idea that finnish metal isn\'t that heavy, only means one hasn\'t looked deep enough  :P . When you listen for, say Ajattara, you simply can\'t claim it\'s not heavy X)

There\'s loads of good artists in other countries too that I think are really brilliant, mostly in europe, especially in Sweden and Norway. Like Einherjer, Thyrfing, Dark Tranquillity, Hypocrisy... (<3 melodic death, viking is good)
Oh well, don\'t even know if I had some point here  :D

PS. if someone here likes Children of Bodom, I recommend to check out Kalmah . I think they sound a bit similar (just better  :)) )

Wow...just checked out this Kalmah thingy...goddamn why haven\'t I found this earlier :D They\'re good.

Though I wouldn\'t say they\'re better than CoB :D But again, matter of personal opinion.

Woah, Kalmah are awesome :D

It\'s hard to say which is better. But Kalmah seem to have a good grip of melody and apparently don\'t go over the top like CoB sometimes do.

Finland is still the only country of Power Metal with harsh vocals I know xD

CoB and Kalmah are Power metal? When I hear Power metal I more think about ...manowar *shivers*...and Iced Earth and Kamelot and that sort of stuff...
Because normally I don\'t like power metal that much but if you say CoB and Kalmah are Power metal I guess I must like it.

By the way, here\'s the link to a little movie...It\'s a guy who has done something to his house on the song Wizards in Winter by Trans Siberian Orchestra. Not my type of metal, but what he\'s done is impressive.

Compare the music CoB and Kalmah are playing to that played by DragonForce, that should say enough ;)

Sometimes you\'d hear those bands being called \"extreme power metal\".

Edit: Hmm, metal-archives has both CoB and Kalmah categorized as \"power/speed metal with harsh vocals\"

That\'s what I like about Kalmah, guess I\'m just a sucker for melodic aspects. It appeals to the romantic in me X)

One definition that stuck in my mind about CoB was: euro speed metal
*shrugh*

/me <3\'s scandinavian metal :D hammerfall, helloween, sometimes even a little dimmu borgir (craziness I tell you!) I listen to 3 inches of blood on occcasion, but they scream too much and sound too feminine for me (the vocals that is) Slipknot is finnish? they were on that site... I\'ll have to check out some of those other bands though, a few look good.

CMX and Trio Niskalaukaus for the win :|
